The Malabar Story

Since opening its doors in 2003, Malabar South Indian Cuisine has established itself as a cult favourite amongst Darlinghurst locals, thanks to its outstanding dishes and electric atmosphere. Head there any day of the week and you’ll find the dining room packed with satisfied diners getting their fix of what many regulars have deemed the city’s best Indian food. 
 
So what’s the Malabar difference? For one, authenticity. 
 
Owner and Chef Mohammed Sali personally picks all his ingredients daily and cooks everything onerously from scratch - peeling onions, slicing beef and grounding spices all by hand. His creations are fragrant, filling and (of course) spicy, providing an authentic and flavour-packed taste of South India.

Through his cooking, Mohammed aims to share the wisdom and skills of culinary traditions, preserving it for new generations to experience. Feast on specialties including Dosai, Barramundi Varuval and the signature Goan Fish Curry.
 
And it's not just the food that impresses. With vibrant floor to ceiling murals and historical artworks adorning the walls, dining at Malabar really is a treat for the senses.
