Bopp & Tone

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Sat, 17th Aug 2019 (9)

Bopp & Tone was much better than I expected. I didn't look up images of the restaurant and only briefly looked at overall reviews. The decor of this restaurant is amazing. It feels like a fancy vintage restaurant but not pretentious. On the night we visited, there was live music with violinists who were great. Food was very nice but the oysters are not worth it for $5 per oyster (I think this is really expensive for oysters - $4 is probs the max I would pay but other restaurants that do $1 happy hour oysters are the best value). I would definitely come back here.

Rockpool Bar & Grill

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Mon, 12th Aug 2019 (7)

This is my second time visiting Rockpool. I first visited a few years ago. The food is not that great anymore (it's not bad but it's only OK) and don't think I will come back. The food is definitely not worth the price. Everything is actually quite expensive and you can get much more amazing food for the same price elsewhere. We had the buffalo cheese, spanner crab pasta, mash, pork chops and David Blackmore's wagyu eye of chuck. The steak was cooked fine but the cut itself was very chewy. Prime and Meat & Wine Co have significantly better steaks (Prime is exceptional). Service was great and they even gave us a cupcake for dessert complimentary for our anniversary.

Automata is worth trying if you haven't been. We had the 7 course degustation - the best course was the sand crab pasta. Most of the courses featured seafood and the fish course (John dory) was cooked beautifully. Although the food is great, I don't think it's super amazing. There are other restaurants with better degustation menus or food in general e.g. Cottage Point Inn, Berowra Waters Inn, The Gantry, Sixpenny. All courses were explained by the waiters. However the service felt a bit empty and mechanical. We were asked if we wanted more bread, we said yes but they forgot to bring it out and no one said farewell to us as we left.

Flour Eggs Water at the Tramsheds

Forest Lodge

Wendy dined on Mon, 17th Jun 2019 (8)

Second time visiting! Pasta portions are big which is great. Would love it if they had a pasta dish that wasn't too heavy. I've tried more than 6 pastas from their menu and all are quite heavy. The burrata and meatballs are amazing. Wish the garlic bread was the bread offered when you sit down instead!

The Gantry Restaurant

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Sun, 9th Jun 2019 (9)

Second time visiting here and the food was great like my first visit! However, service was quite slow. I saw two waiters plus the host on the floor when I visited for lunch. I would visit again though. I love the outdoor area and the fact that it is dog friendly. I was told there is even a dog menu so will definitely come back with my dog.

Wendy dined on Tue, 28th May 2019 (7)

The food was ok here but not as great as I expected. I had friends recommend this place to me so I decided to visit. Most of the seating is outdoors which they note when you book. Unfortunately we visited on a night where it was very windy and cold so our food became cold very quickly - this obviously wasn't something the restaurant could control. The lamb and puffs are very nice but the Simit pastry it not a pastry. It is more like bread/bagel. I wasn't aware of this so ordered it thinking it was like a pastry but upon Googling it is meant to be bread. I do think this place is quite expensive for its portion sizes though. Not sure if I would be back but if you haven't tried it, it is worth trying once.

Billy Kwong

Potts Point

Wendy dined on Mon, 15th Apr 2019 (9)

My partner and I decided to try Billy Kwong before it closes permanently. The service is really good and the staff are attentive and friendly. Their famous steamed crab and prawn dumplings were amazing - the sauce they use tastes so good. The sticky pork belly in their fancy fried rice was the best. Sadly the tiger prawns in the fried rice was seriously overcooked. I informed the waiter about them and they offered to replace it which we declined because it would have been a hassle. So they said they would take it off our bill instead which was a pleasant surprise. I would recommend visiting if you haven't been before but it is on the pricier end for Chinese food (it's described as Asian with a twist but I still think it's more Asian than western).

NOLA Smokehouse and Bar

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Fri, 21st Dec 2018 (8)

The Southern chicken is amazing. Best dish of the night. We tried the Zombie rib but were disappointed especially given it is very expensive ($179 per kg). I prefer Hurricanes' ribs instead. The Zombie rib is cooked differently though and came out in sliced off one large bone. It isn't your typical ribs. Regardless, I would come back next time to try other menu items.

The Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay

Wendy dined on Wed, 19th Dec 2018 (8)

Absolutely worth it when we went with the 50% off food bill offer. We tried 7 types of oysters out of the 19 types available and all were very fresh and delicious. The trevalla was slightly overcooked. The famous snapper pie can be shared between 2 people if you are not very hungry - it is quite big. Great views but not sure if I would pay full price as the oysters are $4.80-$6 each.

Fratelli Fresh Bridge Street

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Thu, 25th Oct 2018 (6)

Came here for $10 World Pasta Day. We were seated at the back in a hidden area so when we needed service, we had to get up and find a waiter as they rarely came to our seating area. Pasta took 30mins to come out (yes they were busy but I really don't think it should take this long regardless). I've been to Fratelli Fresh at Bridge St a few time now but this was probably the worst experience here. Would recommend trying a different location.

Surry Hills

Wendy dined on Sat, 20th Oct 2018 (8)

Great place for BYO with good food at decent prices.

The Meat & Wine Co Barangaroo

Wendy dined on Fri, 1st Jun 2018 (10)

I think the steak here is better than Circular Quay Meat & Wine Co (which was my favourite restaurant out of all the Meat & Wine Co's!). Steak and ribs were excellent. Chips and mash tasted great. We couldn't fault the food when we came here for dinner. We will be coming back to this one regularly!

Cho Cho San

Potts Point

Wendy dined on Thu, 28th Dec 2017 (9)

Amazing service! I went to Cho Cho San with a group of friends and would come back again. Always attentive and food came out very quickly. We didn't like the first wine bottle that we had chosen and the waitress let us swap it without any issues. We also received black sesame mochi on the house which was a very pleasant surprise. Highly recommended!!

Mejico Pitt St CBD

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Wed, 18th Oct 2017 (10)

This was my second time at Mejico but I hadn't been back for a few years (for no particular reason). Every single dish we ordered tasted amazing. Service was great and staff were friendly. It does get noisy inside the restaurant but I didn't mind this. Would visit again!

Fratelli Fresh Bridge Street

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Wed, 2nd Aug 2017 (8)

I've been to Fratelli Fresh Bridge Street twice now. The first time wasn't that great - food and service was average. My sister was raving about the lasagne she ate but when we ordered it, it was definitely not nice, probably the worst lasagne I've tasted because it was really tomato-y. I visited again this week the food was really good, came out quickly and service was great except for when we needed to order (no one came to our table after everyone had arrived to ask if we wanted to order so we had to go get a waiter). So overall Fratelli Fresh is sometimes good and sometimes not great. This is consistent with my friends and family's experiences with Fratelli Fresh too.

Ormeggio at the Spit

Wendy dined on Fri, 14th Jul 2017 (8)

We dined here with the 50% Dimmi offer and chose the A Trip to Italy degustation. Service is excellent, food is presented well and tasty but I didn't think it was "OMG amazing" kind of food. I visited the restaurant knowing that it is a 2 hatted but didn't think the food tasted super spectacular and I would be uncertain paying full price. I would recommend it to friends and family who haven't been before - I say it's the type of place you would go once to try.

The Meat & Wine Co Circular Quay

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Thu, 8th Jun 2017 (9)

This is the best Meat and Wine Co restaurant in Sydney. Service was lacking though but I have found this consistent with other Meat and Wine Co restaurants. We had to go up and ask the staff to come take our order after waiting for more than 5mins. Apart from this, the food was excellent as always!

Bambini Trust Restaurant & Wine Room

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Thu, 30th Mar 2017 (9)

Food was delicious but it wasn't the best Italian I've eaten, hence why I haven't scored it a 10. The steak and potato puree was amazing which we did not expect. The only real negative was that there were little flying bugs around us. They hovered over our food and we had to kill a few of them so they didn't land on our food. Do note that it is quite dark inside the restaurant.

Rose Bay

Wendy dined on Sat, 24th Dec 2016 (9)

I would recommend this to friends and family who have never been to Catalina as it is worth experiencing at least once for its views. Although the food was delicious, I think you can find similar food just as delicious at other restaurants for better value. Service was great until the end where we waited around 20mins for our bill and to have someone come to accept payment.

Rushcutters Bay

Wendy dined on Wed, 21st Dec 2016 (9)

Great service, located in a quiet neighbourhood. I liked how the restaurant allowed customers with dogs in the outdoor sitting area. Pasta was good but not as amazing as some other Italian restaurants in Sydney.

Kingsleys Australian Steakhouse

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Thu, 24th Nov 2016 (5)

Decided to try Kingsley because I love my steak. I personally think you can get better steak for similar prices elsewhere. On the bill it clearly states that payment by credit card will incur surcharges but when we went to pay with our debit card, they said that all card incur surcharges regardless of whether it is a credit card or not. I was not happy with this as the bill said otherwise.

EXP. Restaurant

Wendy dined on Sat, 9th Jan 2016 (10)

Loved every single course in the tasting menu. Chef catered to dietary needs and special requests.

Seven Lanterns

Wendy dined on Fri, 21st Dec 2012 (10)

The degustation menu was amazing. One of the best I've ever tasted. Would definitely go back!
