1/2 dozen snails were only 5 with one empty; our mains were served incopletely and we had to keep reminding staff to bring the rest. Finally received missing items when we were nearly finished. Food was okay but nothing outstanding, especially given the costs. Wine was good though and we were given a complimentary glass. The heat was turned up too high making it uncomfortable to sit there for a couple of hours.
Rose dined on Fri, 7th Sep 2018 (7)
While the service was attentive, friendly and charming, the food didn't really impress us on this visit. It was nice though but not outstanding. Maybe we need to choose other dishes?
Rose dined on Tue, 14th Aug 2018 (10)
I felt like I died and went to heaven. The oeufs en cocotte with truffles was beyond delicious, and the fish main was perfectly matched with flavours of pumpkin and jerusalem artichokes to make a stunning synergy. Of course, the crepes suzettes are still the best in town.

As part of Restaurant Month, we visited Estivo on a 50% discount offer. What a waste of time and money. We were given a reduced menu (on a piece of wrinkled paper) with the 4 of us searching for something we wanted to eat (not much like the published menu). It took at least an hour to get our meals and no bread was served in the interim, nothing. It was at least 10 mins between the first main and the last main being brought to the table and they were rather small (we did not order entres). When the meals came they were ho-hum at best. We did have our water topped up regularly though. None of us are going to return. Not worth it. If Restaurant Month is to showcase your establishment, you failed miserably, Estivo.

Food is good and the menu extensive
Rose dined on Sat, 7th Jul 2018 (7)
Food was good without being outstanding which I expected given the prices. Service was okay but had to keep asking for water to be refilled. Chairs extremely uncomfortable making a relaxed dinner out not enjoyable.
Rose dined on Sat, 14th Apr 2018 (7)
The restaurant is very busy and was extremely noisy on Saturday night. I don't know if that's always the case but we could not hear each other so it wasn't a comfortable experience. Steaks were very good though the mushroom sauce was a real letdown.
Rose dined on Sat, 31st Mar 2018 (6)
Food was just okay and highly overpriced for what we got. Service lacklustre. There are many more places in Southgate that we will return to so no need to go to this one again.
Rose dined on Mon, 19th Mar 2018 (7)
Our burgers were okay without being fantastic. I ordered the one with chicken which was tasty but drowned in mayo.
Rose dined on Sat, 3rd Mar 2018 (6)
It would have been a more enjoyable dining experience if there hadn't been 4 children running wild throughout the time we were there.
Rose dined on Sat, 20th Jan 2018 (8)
Meat prodcts and sides are very good here but desserts are just terrible. Don't waste money on them.
Rose dined on Sat, 13th Jan 2018 (9)
Four of us had different mains and they were all enjoyable: the veal was tasty and tender; pork bellly well cooked; confit duck good but the best was the beef mignon. Tiramisu and creme brulee delicious.
Rose dined on Wed, 10th Jan 2018 (6)
The kitchen seemed overwhelmed with a group (who had booked so they should have been prepared) so our meals were very slow. The waiter graciously apologised for the wait but it wasn't his fault. Lucky we could watch the tennis or the wait would have been extremely annoying. Hard surfaces make the place very noisy even with just a few tables utilised.
Rose dined on Sun, 7th Jan 2018 (7)
Our medium steaks were somewhat tough and had to be sent back because they were rare-medium. Chips are good and the quinoa salad delicious. Service good though.
Rose dined on Fri, 22nd Dec 2017 (10)
A special occasion is made even more special by the owner, staff and chefs. Food is always delicious and it's the only place (ever) where I enjoy rabbit. Best crepes suzettes in town. Thank you.
Rose dined on Sat, 4th Nov 2017 (7)
There must have been a problem in the kitchen because our meals took a very long time coming out and the desserts even longer. Food was good and service prompt.
Rose dined on Sat, 2nd Sep 2017 (9)
This restaurant never disappoints. Always delicious food (it's so tough to choose that now I order the same things and never look at the menu or I'll get confused LOL), charmig service and true French flavours. I had tartiflette (if you've not had it before, do yourself a favour and try it), oeuffs en cocotte with the last of this season's truffles, and the inimitable crepes suzette. Congratualtions to the owner for maintaining and even lifting the quality. We'll be back, always.
Rose dined on Sat, 26th Aug 2017 (8)
Truly a wonderful find, this cafe/restaurant has only been open at this site for a few months and they are doing a great job. Excellent food and if you are lucky to see the pork belly, make sure to order it. I wish it were on the permanent menu now. Our pastas and risotto were very good as were the delish entres (calamari, garlic prawns) and desserts too. Really a good, relaxed and friendly place and we will definitely be back.
Rose dined on Mon, 31st Jul 2017 (7)
It's good to have Mr Hobson restaurant back again but it doesn't seem to be back to it's former deliciousness.
Rose dined on Sat, 22nd Jul 2017 (10)
Heavenly. The tartiflette took me right back to Annecy, the eggs cocotte with truffles were to die for and the Aviator cocktail just like a walk in a summer field full of flowers. My companions loved their eye fillet steak (cooked to perfection) and the spatchcock. As always, Jackie makes sure it's a delicious affair at his restaurant.
Rose dined on Thu, 18th May 2017 (9)
You must try the TARTIFLETTE introduced last night as an entree. Wow. It's so delicious we scraped the container out and wished it was three times as big. Do yourself a favour and try this dish from the Savoy region of France.
Rose dined on Wed, 29th Mar 2017 (7)
Very funky basement bar in Flinders Lane. A fun place to grab a burger of fish and chips and a drink. Their Expresso Martini was very nice.
Rose dined on Sat, 11th Mar 2017 (4)
Less than impressed in this noisy and highly overpriced Italian restaurant. Food was mediocre at best.
Rose dined on Tue, 14th Feb 2017 (9)
Such tasty food and dessert was a revelation: a rice pudding with Nutella... mmm, called Keev. We've not had a bad curry here and the service is with a big lovely smile.
Rose dined on Sat, 21st Jan 2017 (9)
We haven't yet tried the pizzas but can't resist their pasta and rissotto dishes. My pumpkin gnocchi was just delicious; the carbonara and other dishes equally good. Desserts were chosen from their display case and were so fresh. I can highly recommend the slab of tiramisu as well as the other items we tried. Such a great find. We'll be back again and again.
Rose dined on Wed, 11th Jan 2017 (7)
We fortunately tried this restaurant by using a Dimmi offer of 50% off. Our steaks were nice and well cooked, the side dish of pumpkin was lovely and the glass of wine we ordered quite nice. Not the best affogato but not bad. If you feel like steak, you could do worse.
Rose dined on Thu, 22nd Dec 2016 (9)
As always, A La Bouffe never disappoints. Although I really don't like rabbit, I tend to order it here because it's seriously delicious. Our favourite French restaurant in Melbourne.
Rose dined on Sun, 25th Sep 2016 (5)
Sadly, we didn't much enjoy the revamped Noom Duck. Some of the dishes were okay (noodle based), others ho-hum. The service was quite inattentive for the most. We thought the previous menu was much better and offered much more choice, especially for those who are non-seafood eaters.
Rose dined on Sun, 28th Aug 2016 (10)
We discovered Mr Hobson last weeked and returned today to another amazing meal. Everything we ordered was delicious and the wine recommended by our waitress was perfect (so much better than we were intending to pick; she gave us a taste and she was right!). Thank you and good luck with your change next week. We'll be back.
Rose dined on Sun, 21st Aug 2016 (9)
What a find; thanks to a voucher offer, four of us discovered this little gem at lunch today. All our entres were lovely, our mains delicious and dessert just yum. The wines (house wine) were fab too. We will certainly be back and soon.
Rose dined on Thu, 7th Jul 2016 (10)
It is truffle season and I ordered the eggs en cocotte with truffle for entre. It was beyond delicious; what deliciousnes. The lamb rack and a herb crust which was one of the week's specials was cooked exactly as I wanted it and was faultless. There was hardly any room for dessert but was tempted by their special of French toast with popcorn icecream; such fun. Thank you for yet another wonderful night and Happy Birthday, A La Bouffe.
Rose dined on Sat, 28th May 2016 (7)
Some of the dishes are delicious, others rather bland. I'd recommend the chicken and mushroom risotto and the gnocchi (we had them with carbonara sauce and they were stunning). Desserts were quite nice without being outstanding. Chairs are very uncomfortable so if the thinking is to move people through quickly, then the service needs to be faster.
Rose dined on Sun, 17th Apr 2016 (6)
Four of us booked for the Sunday Roast. There were no details of what we were actually getting so we worked through some so-so share entres, the roast was beef (when I booked I understood it would be pork) and bleeding so we had to ask for it to be cooked more for us, they showed us the cheese platter but didn't tell us it would cost extra (and a lot of extra at that) and then we got some rice pudding. Really nothing outstanding in any way with service good but rather stand-offish. It was good to try it but that's about it for us.
Rose dined on Thu, 24th Mar 2016 (3)
Three out of four of us weren't not too keen on our meals, eg my wild barramundi had no flavour but the hand cut chips were nice. None of us was keen on our desserts either. Sad because we had high hopes.
Rose dined on Sat, 12th Mar 2016 (7)
Our entre of soft, light gnocchi in burnt butter and taragon was very nice though they fell apart too easily; the risotto and the beefcheeks with pepperonatta were excellent. Our dessert bombolini were undercooked and the only thing we could taste was cinnamon but nothing else. Really let the meal down. The house Shiraz was good.
Rose dined on Mon, 25th Jan 2016 (9)
Can you improve on perfection? Well, yes, yes you can and A La Bouffe have done so. For example, we always liked the French Onion Soup but the one we had on Monday was spectacularly yummy - I think the recipe has changed slightly and definitely for the better. Do try this restaurant - Jacky now has introduced various new menu options making it even more enjoyable.
Rose dined on Sat, 14th Nov 2015 (8)
Three out of four of us enjoyed our meals; the other meal was so-so. We did think we'd share the Key Lime Pie but it was so bitter that we left most of it.
Rose dined on Mon, 2nd Nov 2015 (10)
Another terrific meal at A La Bouffe. We introduced new friends who loved it too. Well done, everyone, Merci.
Rose dined on Sat, 15th Aug 2015 (6)
While the service was good, the food left a lot to be desired. My companion's $22 burger was enjoyable but my $38 steak was grissly and not particularly enjoyable. My dessert was ho-hum to okay though my companion's cheese plate was good.
Rose dined on Mon, 6th Jul 2015 (10)
This restaurant never disappoints and having been there several times over the last few years, it's so lovely to be recognised and welcomed back. Do yourself a favour and go to A La Bouffe. Monday night is Steak Night which is extremely good value but every night is delicious here.
Rose dined on Mon, 23rd Mar 2015 (9)
Four of us made it for the special Monday Steak Frittes and we enjoyed it so much we'll be making this a regular event. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, the sauces delicious, the frittes crunchy and the salad tasty and fresh. The wine was perfect with it. Three had the crepes suzzettes which were to die for, one had the most delicious mousse au chocolat. Cannot fault it. Thank you for your terrific and charming service too.

We just discovered this jewel on the beach at Frankston. A group of us tried this restaurant for the first time and were blown away with the setting; what a view! One of our group is a very fussy eater and even he said he doesn't remember going to a place and having such a large choice of things he wanted to try. All our meals were delicious, wine perfect, great service. We're so impressed we'll be back; only 45 mins drive from the city.

It's worth spending the time and money to eat here - a little bit of France all the way and the quality and wide range of choices is unsurpassed.
Rose dined on Sun, 30th Nov 2014 (5)
The food was reasonable but the albondigas had too much mint and the serve of boquerones was a mere 2 for over $8! That's not acceptable imho.
Rose dined on Sun, 9th Nov 2014 (7)
Very glad to have had the opportunity of eating at this restaurant; very good food and lovely service. However, the prices are very, very steep.
Rose dined on Sat, 6th Sep 2014 (2)
Weird taste combinations made us think someone there had swallowed a MasterChef cookbook and not successfully. Flavours seemed to fight each other. Sadly, this is no longer the reliably stunning Max's of old when you knew it would be a taste sensation. The best thing all night was the cheese plate :(
Rose dined on Wed, 23rd Jul 2014 (7)
3 had excellent eye fillets but my t-bone was rare rather than medium and full of gristle. Chips were yum as was the mocha creme brule.
Rose dined on Thu, 20th Mar 2014 (7)
A cute street with a number of restaurants in it, easy to find and park, nice restaurant and I'm glad we sat outside on this warm night. Nice food, friendly service. :)
Rose dined on Sun, 22nd Dec 2013 (10)
Lovely restaurant we first discovered through a voucher deal and are returning to enjoy it. A nostalgic touch of France that we love: food is excellent as is the service. Charming people.
