When we lived in Orange for 4 months in 2017, we came to Charred multiple times. As we have not visited in 12 months, they have changed from shared plates to a la carte...which I think is a shame. The style was much better for trying the different flavours and dishes, and I am not sure the reason for the change. One service point that left a bad taste was when being seated, we asked for a booth, as one was available. The server asked the manager which said it was booked. Fine. Then, naturally, no one was seated at that table for the entire time we were in the restaurant. I get it, if the table is reserved or you have a regular that likes that table, by all means they should have it. But for the manager to lie that it’s booked, and then hide when we’re leaving was unprofessional. The food remains excellent, but basic courtesy counts as well.
