Thai Ute

Ringwood East

Choice of dishes good. The whole fish was great as was the chicken and the Beef salad. I would have like the beef pieces less chewy but flavour was good. The pork belly was a standout. My observation is that the quantities of meat/pork could have been more. Looked for papaya salad but they did not have it - a shame.

Indians Again

Ringwood East

shanta dined on Fri, 25th Jan 2019 (9)

The menu covers both Malaysian and South Indian plus a choice of Indian breads. Three of us meant sampling of 4 mains was possible. Lamb chettinad was notable as there was minimum oil and the chicken Nazmi a great contrast. Lamb with dhal again very different in flavour as was the beef off the entree list spicy in a different way. The waitress was willing and eager to please. Drinks menu as basic eg no soda or lemon lime bitters.

Bouzy Rouge

Started with 4 Tapas 2 fish and the charcuterie and another meat dish. Both delightful and pretty filling. Sardines were great. We were planning to share the duck as the cassoulet is very unusual. Alas ! Too full for that so had the Octopus off the tapas menu. Like the white bait we previously had this was cooked to perfection. We were just right.

Bar B Q Tonight

The goat roast is fully worth the $55/ succulent and tangy. With other dishes would have served 4. They did not have their liquor license when we ate 30/10 expecting it imminently.

Juno and May

Two of us decided on many shared plus the pork belly main whic was generous and extremely well done crispy on top and soft below. I liked the calamari and pork bao best. Drinks list was limited though the wine list was good. Were too full but noted a GF DF desert. Will go back

Woodfired Kitchen

Glen Iris

I was really pleased to find such a gem. The food was of a very high standard. Three of us had the Lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection - falling off the cut. the accompanying pumpkin wedges and the lamb had a wonderful smokey flavour as did the Chickpea and cauliflower side salad. The fish (barramundi) was also very nice crisp on top but moist inside as it should be, Our entree was driven by curiosity as the lamb and eggplant balls were unusual ,never having had it at a restaurant before. The flat breads with a choice of topping were also unusual resembling a foccacia but were better being less doughy. They catered for Lactose free easily. They have a reasonable selection of boutique beers and did BYO wine @ 5 perglass. will go back

Sri Ananda Bhavan

Narre Warren

As a specialist South Indian restaraunt they beat others in a nicer restaraunt interior but only that. They have “specialist dosas” which don’t live up to the claims being barely different from the standard dosa. However the standard masala and onion dosas were excellent. Also they have good basic accompaniments with extras. One of the waitresses was pathetic absolutely no knowledge of the menu, discovered she was North Indian , dosa not a normal part of diet. Made an effort to get there so will not do so again.

The Grand Dining Room

shanta dined on Mon, 6th Aug 2018 (8)

Choice of mains was very interesting. Spanish mackerel or seer fish is not encountered on MELBOURNE menus, the combination of brisket and tongue was also unusual. Pork neck is more common on menus but this preparation was great. I had the barbera (Piedmont)by the glass which was unremarkable and relatively expensive. Beers are good and pretty standard choice for a top class hotel.

Marmara Restaurant

We had the fish claypot, brinjal and the kebabs. Four of us went this time and I was happy to note our guests who are very discerning on enjoyed it. The beer (Peroni) was average and on reflection the wine would have been better.the Efes was ok

Red Spice QV

Melbourne CBD

shanta dined on Thu, 11th Jan 2018 (8)

Our choices were close enough to pretty authentic flavours particularly duck noodle, ox cheek curry, pork belly.

Lord Cardigan Restaurant

Albert Park

shanta dined on Tue, 12th Dec 2017 (7)

Visited mid December just two of us. The food and ambience were very much as I expected and got a tick. The only issue I had was with tthe seating. Table was just near the bar area andI bumped my head several times before moving it ourselves. This then make the passage way small and my wife got a bump!! But for an Entertainment card this may not have been VFM

Kobe Jones Melbourne

Mister Bianco

shanta dined on Sat, 7th Oct 2017 (8)

High food quality .The lamb pasta in a bologneise sauce was unusual and made up for the goat pasta being off the menu with one of our party thouroughly enjoying the trumpeter fish -unusual in Melbourne ,but beers slightly overpriced .

shanta dined on Sat, 12th Aug 2017 (9)

Quite a subtle and significant difference to Greek food as this is Cretan cuisine. We had whiting as entree with pork and lamb. Best value is if 4 dined.

Mr Hobson

Port Melbourne

shanta dined on Sun, 1st Jan 2017 (2)

Forgettable New Years day dinner! Duck disappointed -chewy -undercooked,needed a steak knife to slice it. Unresponsive staff when this was brought to their notice. The steak ,pork belly and ravioli ordered by the other three were ok and meant I had to make raids on their plates to eat anything at all!!! Did not have the snapper and one of the entrees- a poor showing all told.
