Casa Ristorante Italiano

Darling Harbour

This was my second time here and is my last. Ordered off the lunch menu, whilst it offers food value if you pick the right dishes, I ordered the halloumi salad which was horrible. Firstly, it was most a bowl full of undressed rocket and leaves. There was barely any dressing except a drizzle of balsamic on the top. Then there was the lack of veg and the veg that was used was clearly canned. Canned beetroot and w scattering or chick peas. Some pumpkin but everything was on the skimpy side. There were four slices of grilled halloumi, that was the only part that was somewhat the only enjoyable bit. I understand that the salad was part of the lunch specials for $16.90, bur at this price, I can’t believe high un-generous the amount of ingredients were provided it was mostly canned. Not quality at all, a very disappointing dish. I had requested for a table with a view so we got that which was a tick as I took overseas visitors here. Our friends had ordered the kids meals for their children which came with ice cream for dessert, we had to char them several times before they eventually gave it to us. I previously rated this place average but now it won’t be a place I recommend in my view.

The Riverview Hotel

Nothing says Sunday like a good old fashioned Sunday roast. Serving up a traditional roast of the day every Sunday. I had the beef brisket roast served with all the trimmings including roast potatoes, cabbage, roast beetroot and a traditional crispy Yorkshire pudding accompanied with a mustard gravy and horseradish cream. My only additional request is that there is more gravy! My plate in particular didn’t have a lot of gravy but one of the other guests on my table had slightly more than me. Needed some additional gravy particularly to eat the crispy Yorkshire pudding. A filling and satisfying Sunday roast lunch, I am keen to come back again.

Otis Dining Hall

Wendy dined on Fri, 4th Jan 2019 (8)

There is a nostalgic feel inside this dining hall which used to be a former It’s the dark timber dinishings, retro dining chairs and the dark amber lighting that gives Otis this relaxed and swinging vibe. We started with the house-made focaccia with alto olive oil and 20 y.o. Balsamic. For $13 for two slices, we thought this better be some amazing bread. The bread is served as two thick big slices, the top is seasoned with salt and herbs, the bread is extremely soft yet dense and has a slight sweet taste, similar to brioche bread. I only wished they gave us more of the oil and balsamic dip as the ratio of that compared to bread wasn’t enough. We ordered the signature Otis peppered steak - 220gr aged steak, brandy jus and Silkwood pepper. The steak comes on its own so at least a side is recommended (sides are large enough to share). You are served your as it is with the jus poured on in front of you,4$3 jus has a red velvety gleam to it, it looks thick and luxurious, I can’t wait to try it. I order my steak medium rare and that’s what I get, perfect. The steak has a thick pepper crust on top, there is a strong peppery kick which I like, the jus has a slight vinegar note which balances the pepper steak well. We ordered a side of brussel sprouts to share. If you don’t normally like sprouts, these will change your mind! Cooked with almond milk ricotta, roasted almond flakes and honey, these sprouts are lightly fried so they are very crispy and crunchy. Otis was a former one chef hat restaurant and lost its hat in 2018, I thought the steak and sprouts were great, the bread was ok. The wine list was decent, I enjoyed the glass of Grenache that I ordered. There were some kitchen or staff issues on the night we dined as they seemed extremely slow to take our orders and it was difficult to get their attention. This was acknowledged by the manager who on his own account offered us some free coffees to end the meal. Let’s hope Otis can lift their service and try get that coveted chef’s hat sometime in the near future as I think they have potential.

400 Gradi Eastland

Wendy dined on Mon, 31st Dec 2018 (4)

Ate at the Ringwood branch of 400 Gradi, the restaurant is much more spacious than their Lygon st branch. The pizzas are still as good as the city branch (but I still think Lygon St is better), the base is soft and chewy with a slightly puffy crust. We had the margherita (which is my fave) Gradi (with tomatoes and prosciutto) and garlic prawn pizzas. The pasta dishes are ok, I would recommend more the pizzas than pastas but we ordered the tagliatelle al ragu bolognaise and seafood linguine. A note on the pizza’s - they are served quartered and are just enough for one as a normal pizza serving size.

The Crafty Squire

Melbourne CBD

Wendy dined on Sun, 23rd Dec 2018 (9)

If you’re after a causal, chilled out pub in the CBD with a good drinks selection, this is the place. A variety of beers on tap, I tried this cider on tap which was good, a crispy apple flavour, sweet enough. A decent pub food menu, with generous portions.

Monkey's Corner

Wendy dined on Fri, 14th Dec 2018 (9)

A simple and small menu but the signature dishes are done well and I like the inventive dishes!

Goldfish Hunter Valley

Wendy dined on Sat, 15th Sep 2018 (9)

A great casual bar and kitchen with lovely outdoor seating overlooking the vineyards. A good variety of dishes designed for sharing at decent prices is why we chose to eat here. The thin based crispy pizzas were great, the flatbread garlic one was my fave, the margarita was good too. Chips and truffle mayonnaise were AMAZING! Golden, crunchy skin on chunky chips with the most amazing truffle aoili mayonnaise.

Meat District Co.

Great burgers and steaks here in a convenient location. They do fast business work lunches as well as you can order in advance off their great lunch menu specials. This burger was yummy together with the fries and dipping sauce. Would come here again!

Excellent experience, highly rated and would recommend great bar for a pre dinner drink of you have a booking, great views in the restaurant itself. My crab and polenta entree was excellent, pork main was good and the cherry jam lamination was outstanding. Great service, very attentive. Also excellent wine list.

Fratelli Fresh Bridge Street

Sydney CBD

Wendy dined on Thu, 1st Mar 2018 (6)

I think it was ok/decent Italian food, good prices for what it is. I would just note to people that it is quite a busy and noisy restaurant so not suitable if your dining with guests that may have mobility restriction or where you want a nice conversation as the restaurant is quite chaotic in atmosphere.

Blu Ginger

Hunter & Barrel - Eastland

Wendy dined on Sun, 31st Dec 2017 (7)

Perfectly cooked medium rare 200gr eye fillet steak with crispy, fluffy, chips (I suspect were tripled cooked) which were seasoned. I chose the pink rock salt rub for the steak to bring out the natural flavours, the peppercorn sauce was good (peppery spicy bite to it) but to be honest the steak was good without as well. This steak joint took me by surprise with how good the steak and chips were, we also ordered a variety of sides (Mac and cheese with pork crackling and the spiced pumpkin was 👌). However, the flounder fish which was ordered by other guests was undercooked and had to be taken back though so I would only recommend the steaks from here. We ate at the Eastland branch.
