Sharon Salloum

A mother’s love for food inspired Sharon Salloum to learn the authentic cooking traditions from Syria. Never having had formal training, Sharon taught herself to run a commercial kitchen. She left a career in Aged Care Project Management to pursue her dream. Sharon has taken Middle Eastern food to a whole new level of appreciation and awareness in Australia, while expanding and contributing to the evolution of the ancient cuisine.

We really enjoyed it. The food tasted great and decent sizes. Service was friendly and wine list had good variety at reasonable prices. Only wish we had a larger group so we could have tried more dishes.

About Almond Bar

A Darlinghurst Delight Serving Syrian-inspired mezza, Almond Bar has been a much-loved eatery for Darlo locals since it opened in 2007. And we’re jumping on the bandwagon. Sisters, Carol and Sharon Salloun have changed the perception that Sydneysiders have of Middle Eastern food (no, it’s not just about kebabs and hummus), using their mother’s beloved family recipes to shine new light on their fave cuisine. This intimate restaurant seats forty people with a focus on small dishes, designed to share. Hummus feans will be pleased to know that this much-loved dip does feature on the menu, but the Sallown sisters have jazzed it up with a welcome hit of chilli. Bring on the heat we say. Falafal, spatchcok halabeh and beef shawarma (smoky beef strips marinated in Arabic seven spices) are just some of the other tasty dishes on offer at this modest and intimate eatery. It’s in your best interests to get up close and personal with Almond Bar. And if you want an insiders tip, some of the restaurant's best and most authentic dishes are served at the traditional breakfast held on the first Sunday of the month. You’re welcome.
