Meet the Chef

In 2007, Somer opened his first restaurant, Efendy, in Sydney’s Balmain. In 2015, Somer co-authored his first cookbook, Anatolia: Adventures in Turkish Cooking, with David Dale.Somer opened his second restaurant, Anason, in Sydney’s Barangaroo harbourfront precinct in 2016. As a mark of his success, he is now one of the key judges on the new2018 MasterChef Turkey, a franchise of the international hit show.

    Cheerful, friendly and prompt service. Food delicious as usual. Wish they had individual baklava to go with coffee, not just as a main dessert with ice cream.

    Food was fantastic, service was friendly, but drinks waiter was always hard to get hold of, so always a big delay in getting drinks. Otherwise a great place, and worth it just for the food.

    We enjoyed a nice and friendly service, first of all. Thank you. However, I read “decent portion” in one of the reviews so I chose this place for a group. I thought we could share a colourful meze plate as always we do. But actually, most of their dishes are small to share as they kindly advised us when we’re ordering. You pay lots for small & ok Turkish dishes for Barangaroo prices. It’s perfect for a date night for a couple. I think its much better having authentic good Turkish in Newtown if you're a group.

    I liked Anason on a overall picture. The lamb was cooked beautifully but just because I was sat down at the very corner of the outside patio, it got windy and cold very fast. For this days I don´t know if serving it over a hot plate would keep it warm a bit longer, specially if you are sharing and have many dishes to try.

    We were entertaining friends from interstate and thought we'd try something a little different. We were certainly not disappointed. What a fabulous menu. Not a huge choice but definitely something for everyone. Each share plate was amazing with beautiful flavours. Great experience and will certainly be returning

    My second visit and Impeccable food yet again - friendly service too - only hitch was the guy who tried to take our okra and fava bean dish away before we had finished.

    Seated right next to Barangaroo prep for Melbourne cup. Had workman and machinery right next to us. Could not hear our conversations and area filled with petrol fumes. Poor service to our table throughout No effort made to address it until we complained end of night. We appreciated a discounted bill but would have preferred a relaxing dinner more. This was a scheduled disruption that he restaurant should have managed

    This restaurant was a delight! Our server, Omer, was providing amazing service. The food was absolutely delicious! Only one picky thing I can say is that since the tables are outdoors and it was a windy day, there was some dust on the tables, but this was not a big deal. I would definitely come back to try more dishes!!!!

    This is my favourite restaurant in Sydney. Always excellent Turkish food, great menu & the staff are always incedibly helpful , accommodating & generous! I've eaten here 5 or 6 times now & I'll be back for sure!

As a child growing up in Istanbul Somer Sivrioglu always wanted to be by the sea. Now, with Anason, located in Barangaroo, his childhood dream has come true. In this waterfront location Sivrioglu and his team of young Turkish chefs deliver a truly authentic Anatolian experience, serving the rich culture, colour, vibrancy and hospitality of Sivrioglu’s home city on a plate - all by the water. Given the setting the menu is more influenced by the sea that his first restaurant, Efendy but it’s part of this restaurant's charm. It’s different to what he’s done before. Modelled on the casual meyhanes and drinking bars of Turkey be transported to Sivrioglu's homeland for a truly wonderful dining experience. Welcoming everyone into his restaurant, not as a diner, but as a guest to his ‘home’, Sivrioglu has a seat at a table waiting for you.
