Beautiful meal, lots of flavours and plenty of dishes to choose from. Service was a little bit slow but still very friendly. Would highly recommend for the food.

Surprisingly authentic food with personable service! Portions are small, but food is delicious with complex flavours. No two dishes are alike - definitely recommended for anyone who wants to try /real/ Sri Lankan food that's not overwhelmingly spicy!

Great vegan options. Of note was the Kotthu roti and the coconut sambal. The drinks lists looked pretty promising. Look forward to returning.

Perfectly balanced service. Fascinating drinks list (including dessert teas). Possibly the best understanding of spices of any restaurant in Melbourne. When ordering remember that small dishes are truly appetisers that lift and challenge the palate whereas mains are more substantial - so order perhaps more of the former for variety and be confident that one main with rice / vegetables will probably be fine for two to share.

About Araliya

Spicing up St Kilda Within the white walls of Araliya on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda there is some serious spice going on. Chef Sam Wedande, who was trained in hotel management and cookery in Sri Lanka, melds traditional Sri Lankan cooking and French technique, using Sri Lankan herbs and spices to create unique dishes such as wagyu brisket with cardamom and kithul palm sap; and duck confit in a roast-fennel curry. With Wedande’s wife, Dee, running the restaurant floor, Araliya is a true Sri Lankan showcase where food prevails and conversation follows. Be part of that conversation. Best dish: baked crab - fresh crabmeat cooked with green chilli and cheese, baked in the shell to a golden brown served with a ragi (Kurrukkan flour) roti bread.
