Meet the Chef

Picture of Ben Russell.

Ben Russell

Since opening in 2009, Russell has helped Aria Brisbane become one of the city’s go-to restaurants for fine-dining. After starting an apprenticeship in Tasmania, he moved to Melbourne, then France where he worked at several Michelin-starred restaurants before scoring a job cooking on super yachts. After three years, Russell grew wary of becoming a permanent yacht cook, moving to Sydney to work in a professional kitchen at Aria Sydney as sous-chef for five years before opening in Brisbane.

Lovely atmosphere and great view. Very flavoursome sirloin steak which we very much enjoyed. Thoughtful and discreet service and generous kitchen who surprised us with little extras.

Good food and atmosphere. Lower quality service than previous dining experience so a bit disappointed that the level of service isn’t maintained.

I like the entrance door, the atmosphere, the service and the presentation of the food, we ordered oyster and octopus for appertizer, cod steak chicken and mushroom pie for main, strawberry soufflé and chocolate passion fruit for dessert. Our favorite is the mushroom pie which surprised ourselves. The steak is done well but not surprising. The fish is fresh. We like it and recommended to our friends

Good food, poor service at front desk. Service has definitely decreased this year but still a generally great dining experience.

I chose Aria to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and they did not disappoint. We chose the 7 course Summer tastes menu with matched wines and this was a memorable and great experience. Very happy with Nicole our waiter and the bearded sommelier who provided excellent service. This was one of the most expensive meals we’ve ever had but it was a delightful experience from beginning to end. Thanks ARIA!

it was for my birthday. we had a summer tasting menu with wine pairing. there are options - 4 courses or 7 courses. we chose 4 and it was just right. we couldn't have finished the 7 course meal. there was a chicken dish included in the 4 course meal but we wanted Octopus instead. they accomodated for us without any fuss. the paired wines were explained well by the floor manager. at the end of the deal with full tummy, they brought the happy birthday treat. no we couldn't finish it but definitely appreciated the fact that they thought about it for us. will be back for special occasion. worth it.

About ARIA Restaurant Brisbane

The River Queen Owners Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan’s award winning restaurants speak for themselves. Their ongoing passion exudes delight from every pore. The elegant white and timber trimmings arouses a relaxing nautical feel as you gaze across the water while sipping wine from our greatest Australian regions and around the globe. Situated perfectly on the Eagle Street pier, ARIA offers stunning views across Brisbane River and Story Bridge. If its quality food you’re after you have to keep in mind that these guys own their own property where they raise their own grain fed beef and lamb. With Matt Moran’s passion it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s out there feeding and patting them himself! This is the kind of joy that goes into every meal they produce like entrees of buffalo milk burrata and poached holmbrae chicken, to a smoked wagyu short rib or pan fried bass groper. The dessert menu is pure indulgence with some hidden surprises. Just let them match a wine with your meal – they really know their stuff! After your elite dining experience it’s recommended you take a stroll through the nearby cityscape or across the river to truly soak up the ARIA atmosphere. Superb. Best Dish: Kingfish
