For a Valantines dinner, there seem to be lots of confusion when the drinks were offered and when the meals came out. Food was just okay, nothing special. Even though I had paid in advance for the set course, the wait staff didn't know and presented menu and asked what we would like to order. Small things matter and the restaurant missed the mark. Especially on a day that it needed to be at it's best. I saw others walk out due to the same reasons.

Great restaurant, linked to hotel. Nice style of food, with wood fired being a theme. Had octopus starter and shared a tomahawk for two very tasty. Some of the side were nice but maybe a little too much smoke! On balance fairly good and not too expensive depending on how big you want your steak!!

We chose Ascua because it was across the road from His Majesty’s Theatre as we had a show to go to. We arrived an hour and a half prior to the show and let the staff know that we had to be out by 7.30, to which they assured us they always have clients going to shows and it wouldn’t be a problem, just don’t order certain things as they take a while to prepare. We ordered a couple of small entrees and some simple main dishes. The entrees came out and they were fine but it was some cold cuts and a tomato salad so can’t really review on that food. The time started ticking away and it was 20mins before our show, we asked the waitress and she assured us it was on its way. Meals kept walking past us and it now got to 7 mins before our show. We asked one of the male waiters again and they seemed a bit confused, the meat dish was still another 3 mins away and we couldn’t possibly eat in 30seconds before the show started so we had to leave hungry and we’re charged for what we had and just asked if we could come back after the show to eat... dinner at 10pm, I don’t think so. If you have a show to go to, don’t go. The kitchen looked amazing with the flame grill cooking the meals but unfortunately this won’t get me back because of the poor service. We watched our show, tummies grumbling. Very disappointed.

We had dined at Ascua previously and considered it one our best dining experiences. Tonight was beyond appalling. The service was beyond bad. We will never return to Ascua based on tonight’s service. TERRIBLE
