Andrew Burns

Andrew Burns, chef and owner of Babyface Kitchen shares close relationships with all our suppliers, frequently visiting farms and chatting with our farmers. Be it meat, seafood or our fruit and vegetable growers, we share the same thoughts on the farming methods and treatment of the land and soil. This extends onto our ever growing and changing wine list. This also keeps our menu highly seasonal and very interesting with many hard to get products.

Review is based on the experience we had that night, I’m sure it won’t be the same next time we go. Couple of issues with a few dishes (and a particularly offensive guy that thought it was ok to swear at the top of his voice whilst in a nice restaurant. That was no fault of the restaurant, he perhaps should have gone somewhere else) but we raised them with Jen and she was amazing. Excellent customer service. We’ll be back.

The whole experience was delightful from the ease of booking to the restaurant welcome, service, menu choices and dining. Other customers were nearby but I never felt intruded upon and the restaurant has an intimate and friendly atmosphere. It was an enjoyable evening.

Visited for Friday lunch on a weekend away in Wollongong. Enjoyed a set three course lunch for $50. Food was beautifully presented and everything tasted delicious. Service was great. Only downside was that restaurant was quiet (we were the only customers) which took a bit away from the ambience, but I’m sure this wouldn’t be the case in the evening or even maybe weekend lunch time. Overall this was a fabulous restaurant. Highly recommended.

Having dinner at Babyface was an absolutely wonderful dining experience. The food, wine, service were all perfect. Chef Andy Burns needs to be congratulated on his vision, creativity and culinary skills. We will definitely be back.

Babyface I cannot sing enough praises about my most delightful dining experience here last night. Quiet and unassuming, Babyface is not all stuffy like many of the fine dining establishments but don’t let the lack of starched white tablecloths and the decor fool you! It’s attention to details really sets it apart. Beneath the relaxed Scandinavian elegance and excellent service, is a carefully curated menu and some top notch food. My partner and I had the 7 course degustation menu and each dish was differentiated enough in terms of technique, texture and flavour and yet, overall there was great cohesiveness in the menu. The plating, like the decor, was simple and elegant which better showcased the complexity in each dish. Without all the unnecessary adornments that sometimes distracts from the dish, each plate was a playful harmony of flavours: Think kombu ice cream with white and red rhubarb; textural potato ‘noodles’ with leek ash. The service staff were attentive without being intrusive. They clearly knew their dishes well and where each of the items were sourced from. Perhaps it’s partially the halo effect: my partner and I had a disappointing dining experience at Rookie Eatery (just a couple of doors down) the night before and Babyface was just far more refined in every way. If it were a deep fried item, it was really crisp, if it were diced, it were diced evenly. The flavors were assertive without being overpowering. Babyface has become my reason to revisit The Gong!
