Service was friendly. If the owner is in the kitchen and it is quiet it is nice to meet the maker so I would suggest that he come out occasionally.
Thanks, I do work front of house shifts sometime too. I'll see you next time !

Lovely little restaurant with staff of great hospitality! The food was yum, highly recommend the mussel and the portion was so generous! We were so concerned we couldn’t stand up after we finished🤣
Thank you

Went there for a meal before a movie at the nearby IMax. Enjoyed the food and drink, and service was very good, super value with thefork special.

We had our dinner on Sat 20th July with my husband and my sister. Last year we had a wonderful experience from Basta and we wanted to try again with my sister on her visit from Brisbane. Out of all the restaurants we chose Basta but we left terribly disappointed. I booked more than a week ago and got a call 2hrs before we got there to confirm our booking. I asked the lady if she could change time from 6:30 to 6:45 and the lady rejected saying they are fully booked at that time which I understood. When we got to the restaurant at 6:30 there were only two tables occupied on the first floor, however, we were told to sit on the bench at the back of the restaurant next to the kitchen. Im pregnant and my back is sore so I asked the waiter if we could sit somewhere else but since we booked through Fork 50% we dont have a choice but to sit where they told us to sit. So we ordered 3 pasta + 1side and was waiting for the food to come out. Soon after we ordered the head chef accidentally dropped a bowl of pasta dough on the floor. I thought one of the other junior chef picked it up and put it away. A few mins later the head chef came back and asked where the dough went and he took it to the back and asked another junior chef to use it for something. I couldn't hear exactly what he said to the other chef but he definitly didnt throw it out. I'm very concious with what I eat as I'm pregnant. Hopefully it wasn't used for our order. Lastly, we had 2 bottles of sparkling water and got charged for 3 bottles. Even with the second bottle the waiter didnt even ask we wanted more. Today's dining experience was the WORST experience ever. When we left at 7:30 there was only ONE table occupied.
Lisa, You said you had read t&c of the fork festival, so you knew you would have ended up on stools. You made the choice to save 50% on your food bill, rather then secure a table a pay full price. You also came in on Saturday evening, which was clearly the busiest night of the week. You also never disclose to the person who confirmed your booking about any pregnancy or your sore back. We allocate a minimum of 2 hours to all our bookings, and most all our later bookings were at 7:45pm, hence why we could have not move you to any of those tables. We do charge $4pp for unlimited sparkling water. You were charged $12, so all looks regular to us. We are all very aware of Australian Food Safety Standard, so we can guarantee that whatever was dropped wasn’t reused or served to any of our guest.

We ordered the squid ink linguine which was very average, it could have had more flavour. The mussels were good though.
Thank you very much for bringing that to our attention. We would like to apologise for the issue and have rolled up our sleeves to resolve it. We hope to do better on your next visit.

Very delicious food, especially their bruschetta. It was the best I've ever had.

High quality petite establishment with refined food. Mussels were delicious and the barramundi had the best cauliflower puree ever. We actually asked the waitress for the ingredients and she quickly asked the chef. Very nice place.
Thanks Sener

About Basta

Not too much, not too little! Basta is a new Italian restaurant concept in Fitzroy established by the owners of Casa Ciuccio. The word Basta means ‘enough’ – and talks to the ethos and mantra of Basta of creating and serving delicious food from simple, yet delicious handmade pasta and fresh locally sourced produce. Not too little, not too much, just enough. The menu includes everything from delicate antipasti to hearty pasta dishes and rich meats like porchetta and Gippsland grass fed flank steak! Best dish: squid ink gnocchi with mussels, prawn, squid and smoked tomato sugo.
