Big Mouth is a great combination of delicious well priced food, great service and funky decor, all wrapped up in a fabulous location. We stumbled upon it before a show at the Palais, we’ll be back!

Dropped in before a show at the Palais for a quick bite. They offer an expresso martini for Palais pre-theatre diners - which was great! Food was good and service was friendly and quick, and they got us to the show on time.

The gluten free tortilla used for the fish taco was dreadful. Others items were average. The staff were pleasant. At the price paid, I wouldn’t dine again.

Really lovely, accommodating service, prompt, no hassle dealing with varying dietary requirements, and broad variety of meal choices to cater to the wide spread of appetites amongst our group of 8. Definitely coming back for next large group gathering!

The beef burger was fantastic but the St chicken burger was over cooked and the crust was rock hard, almost inedible. Service was spot on, attentive and both staff members downstairs were very attentive and helpful. Great music, service and atmosphere but the food was disappointing

Great menu choices (including good kids mrnu) and excellent drink options. The alcoholic milkshakes were gr8!! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only negative was that the upstairs was nearly empty but we were a large group on a big table in the corner but felt quite squashed in, hard for people to get in and out of their seats. Luckily 3 of our group were children or we would not have comfortably fit around the table.

Great venue to host parties or to hangout with friends. We ordered the southern chicken burger and calamari. Calamari was the outstanding dish, crispy and hot. However the southern chicken itself was nothing special, very oily and parts of the chicken was still cold. It appears that chicken meat was precooked but not heated all the way through when fried. Not a bad idea but not great either...... Didnt mention this to the house as we know what happens when you complain about your food. The chilli sauce served on the side with burger was delicious, probably one of the best sauces i've had with any burger.

About the restaurant

Open wide Big Mouth is a darling resident of Melbourne’s salty seaside town of St Kilda. This place is not just a cafe and restaurant, it’s a club and function venue all wrapped up in one. It wouldn’t be such a Melbourne classic if it weren’t housed in a historic building right? Throughout its colourful history, the Big Mouth building has been a ballroom and a gambling den, and the opulent art deco vibe from its past haunts the present incarnation with plush furniture and sumptuous decor. The customer base is no less vibrant, as St Kilda locals from all walks of life pop in to enjoy Big Mouth’s treasures; everyone from suits and tradies to muso's and hippies. We open at 3pm every week day and 10am on the weekend. The menu is something between what you’d find at a fancy mod-Oz diner and a neighbourhood pub. With an all Aussie head chef running the kitchen you can expect to see everything between a good old fashioned parma and a creamy home-made gnocchi.

Aside from our delicious food, our specialty is cocktails. Sit back and relax in our upstairs lounge until late sipping one of our extensive cocktail creations.
