A culinary landmark in Surry Hills. bills Surry Hills opened on busy Crown Street in 1996. Since then, Surry Hills has transformed itself from a quiet rag-trade area of Sydney to the centre of the city’s media, art and foodie communities. Australian chef/owner Bill Granger couldn't have picked a better spot. Sit down and scan the menu in the bright dining room which is simply decorated with white washed walls, a large mirror and honey coloured timber furnishings. The open kitchen is lively all day all day long, and the dining room is often packed (especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings). Locals pick up their coffee or fresh juice on the way to work; friends chat over brunch; business lunches are held next to prams, backpacks and the occasional celebrity; and neighbourhood families drop in for an easy dinner. We love to come at breakfast time and order a big stack of bill’s famous ricotta pancakes. For a casual meal with a five star edge in Surry Hills, bills is the place to go. Best dish: crisp ocean trout, ruby grapefruit, coriander and chilli salad
