Great inner city restaurant, service is excellent, menu is traditional with many favourite french tastes. Once you walk in the door, you are transported to France. Booking is a must, it is very popular and with good reason, great for couples or larger group. Definitely worth at least one return visit to try some of the other menu options.

We go to Bistro Papillon regularly and we love it. The dishes are always authentic French, the staff attentive and friendly and the setting intimate and true French Bistro. All the classics served beautifully.

The service is friendly. I feel little disappointed on the foods. We spent $120 for 2 persons in lunchtime. Taste were just ok, but they were not impressive to us. The presentation of foods is likely family dishes.

Great, fun French bistro in the CBD. A bit of an institution and a wonderful “regular”.

Had to ask for menus and there were 2 salt shakers on the table with no pepper. Food was pretty good except duck was dry and bouillabaisse was very fishy.

The raclette night is a great special event for a winter evening. I love French cheese and the whole Savoyarde thing. It was really delicious and on a cold and wet Sydney night reminded me so much of Europe and home! Great fund and delicious food.

Love the dinner as we’ve been coming back for many years. Very cosy and intimate with great food and wine. My only comment is that the 2hour dinner reservation felt a bit rushed, we wanted to enjoy the ambience better without being under the clock in the future.

About the restaurant

French chic

The dream of Bistro Papillon was established years ago when two Frenchmen found themselves working together in a restaurant in the UK. In 2010 this dream became a reality with the opening of Bistro Papillon in Sydney’s CBD. This rustic French restaurant is all about authentic and classic flavours. The restaurant tightly packed with dark wooden furnishing and retro French artwork (you feel as though you’ve wandered into a Parisian bistro). They have a menu devoted to French classics and restaurant ‘specialities’ where you will see the likes of escargots, tarte flambee, tartare de boeuf and onglet de boeuf. There is also a large a la carte menu which features a large selection of French faves like coq au vin, tarte tatin and lots of cheese.
