served sliced, roasted garlic jus, sauerkraut & leaves
The quality of the food and wine was amazing. Felt a little rushed by one of the waitresses initially but overall really good.
Certainly not the Cow of old. The standards in quality of food have definitely diminished over the past few years. Service is still good but the food (given the price) is under par. Chewy calamari for entree followed by a pretty tough pub quality steak as main is disappointing once the BIG bill appears. Others in my group agreed with this underwhelming sentiment.
Great service and fantastic food - the steaks are to die for and the selection of sauces and sides complete the meal. A real gem in the heart of Launceston. Highly recommended.
Great restaurant with awesome waitresses. Good atmosphere with awesome food..................................................................
A tiny restaurant but busy, buzzy and very inviting. The King Island eye fillet was so tender I could cut it with my fork and it was beautifully cooked and so tasty. Highly recommended.
We had dinner on a Wednesday night. We were led to a table immediately and service was prompt overall. The meals arrived in good timing and most were executed well. We did find the pumpkin and sweet potato with pumpkin seed cream a little too greasy but otherwise loved the sashimi and our steaks. I ordered a mocktail which was not on the menu, they ask what you prefer and they whip up something on the spot accordingly. All in all it was an enjoyable dinner.
The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection, sides were also a great addition to the meal. Wait staff were attentive and knowledgeable, a great night overall.
The staff explained the menu clearly, the food was excellent, just so delicious especially the sauces and beef. The staff were friendly and attentive. The red wine was local, good to see a restaurant promoting Tasmanian wine..A definite must if you come to Launceston
The best meal we had in Tas, live up to the high reputation.
As always the Black Cow did not disappoint. Entree was Scottsdale Pork Belly, chilli jam, black sesame and pickled radish. Just divine. The Charcuterie Board was delightful. Steaks were cooked so perfectly and the flavour amazing. The sides were just as inventive and delicious. The mascarpone mousse with raspberries and meringue and the Chocolate Mousse were to die for. The wait staff are attentive and friendly, but not intrusive. My water was keenly monitored and I never got down below 1/2 a glass before it was topped up. My only complaint was the we were charged $3.5 per person for the bread and you only get one slice each. This place is definitely not cheap, but for the most part the food, presentation and flavour adventure make it worth the outlay.
Best restaurant in launceston in my opinion, absolutely delicious and steak cooked to perfection. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable for helping select a devine red to match our meal
Great food and attentive service. The steaks were absolutely delicious! The environment was on theme and well thought out although the space was a bit cramped. I would definitely recommend
All food are great. The service is in fact much better even for a busy restaurant. Will come back for sure! Highly recommend to anyone. All kids finish their dishes.
Delicious and wonderful moment to have steak with red wine!
Service is quite good. The oysters are fresh and their sauce are really excellent. It’s our first time to eat such a beautiful and yummy potato product with the steak. The chocolate mousse after meal is not so sweet and we love its generous flavors!
Every time I fly to Launceston for work I eat at the Black Cow and the staff there know what I like to order and they make me feel special. I have never been there and it not be busy. Booking is highly recommended! Excellent atmosphere and the food is out of this world. Worth the cost and guaranteed an enjoyable, special evening.
Food was excellent and the service was really good too. Our waitress Julia was great, highly professional yet very personable. The Pork belly and NY strip steak were up there with the best I have had.
Best in its class. Will highly recommend. The quality of food, service and ambience was conducive to a wonderful dining experience. Well done.
A very welcoming place...excellent steaks and wine...we all had the roasted squid for entree which was a little chewy...the ladies had 200gm eye fillets and the men the large scotch fillets for maincourse...lovely sides of cauliflower au gratin and asparagus and delicious sauces to choose from...thoroughly recommend this place if a perfect steak is what you are looking for.

There’s nothing like premium Tasmanian beef, dry aged, free range, grass fed and artificial hormone free. You can taste the difference. You can taste the quality. For a truly great cut of meat, Black Cow Bistro is the place to get it in Tassie. Located in the historic art deco Luck’s Butchery shop in Launceston the ‘up market’ steak house has a wide range of steaks with different flavours and tenderness. From the delicate and tender lean Eye Fillet and fat studded Scotch through to the hearty Rib Eye and textured Porterhouse and Rump, these are top quality steaks at Black Cow. With all dishes designed around fresh local produce, you are eating from the local land when you dine here. The menu is cleverly displayed with dishes ‘Before the Black Cow’ through to ‘To the side of the Black Cow’. All delicious.
Best dish: Eye Fillet Cape Grim Beef (Smithton, NW Tas) with Café de Paris butter and roasted honey brown mushrooms with thyme and garlic
