Black Fire Restaurant has been on our bucket list for a while, as every time we would walk past the restaurant the aromas were so tantalising. We recently dined at Black Fire to celebrate a special occasion and unfortunately we are sad to say that the experience was extremely underwhelming. Overall the food lacked flavour, was under seasoned and the meat was so severely over-cooked that it was unrecognisable in both texture and taste.

I have eaten at Backfire before and enjoyed the meal, however after eating the again in the weekend, was very disappointed. We ordered the degustation and the entrees were all more or less tasteless. Looked lovely but lacked flavour. The main course was better, meat was well cooked, however again the food lacked much flavour. The service and atmosphere were good but the food wasn't.

The food was a bit of a miss. Eg pork belly was lovely although condiments of apple and rhubarb were too bitter and deterred from the flavour. The squid - probably the worst I’ve ever had, not quite sure how they were meant to cook it, it tasted as though it had been stewed and the sauce again made it almost inedible.

When we arrived, the waiter took a phone call as we arrived, and then had at least a 3 minute conversation and took a booking. In my view he should have taken the call, asked the caller to wait, and then deal with us and take us to our table. My overall impression is it is now a little overpriced for its ambience and food. The meal was excellent , long delay for main meal; understaffed on that night?

Food was amazing, service was a little slow but lovely, a couple hot plates served with no warning. Excellent wine/beverage list.

Lovely night, though the chef’s tasting menu could have added a bit more/larger portions.

About Black Fire

“Fuego negro!” Black Fire offers an exciting and innovative take on Mediterranean cuisine. Their dishes are wonderfully well thought-out and presented, inspired by their culture and their love of cooking. Meats, seafoods and vegetables are cooked through an open fire roast. This is the highlight of their meals - it’s incredibly authentic and unique. Located in Braddon, Black Fire is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner so it is perfect for any occasion. Best dish: Arroz Caldoso - King prawns with saffron and pimenton.
