We have been to Buvette many times since it’s opened. We feel that the food standard has continuously deteriorated since. Tonight, one of the meals ordered was a share seafood dish for two and was thoroughly disappointed when it arrived. However, after speaking to the host, he quickly rectified the issue with the kitchen which was nice and appreciated. Unfortunately we feel that should not have happened in the first place - patrons don’t want to have to uncomfortably point out issues.

I ordered a second glass of wine and ended up cancelling it as it was so slow coming and did not arrive. I had to wait ages for the first glass as well.

$70-$80 seems high but it’s not as that included drinks entree and Main each. The food Was great and the wine choices also. Very friendly service. It is a definite visit when in Canberra for me.

5 rating above is because 1.tables too small, 2. menu hard to read (beige print, low lighting)

Bottle wine was great expensive but the carafe of rose was good and reasonably priced

Very limited vegetarian options. Food was quite nice, service OK but below expectations.

Food was quite good - mains delicious! But service was disappointing and there was a mistake with our drink order so instead of a bottle we got drinks by the glass until everyone realised almost at the end of the night when we kept waiting for refills. Quite slow food service as well.

Slow to take our order and I'd prefer to buy wine by the bottle rather than carafe. That said, best steak ever.

Absolutely appalling service. Had to continually find and flag down waitstaff, who were not paying any attention to patrons, and did not know their own drinks list. Several dishes came out incorrectly, one side didn't even come out out all. Parfait was bland and unappetising. Steak was cooked well, and restaurant fit-out was pleasant. Would definitely not return.

About the restaurant

More than a drinking hole

Making a statement as much more than ‘a hotel restaurant’ Buvette is making waves on the Canberra dining scene with their beautiful French fare. Using fresh, quality ingredients to deliver seasonal menus showcasing the best of locally sourced produce, the menu spans from shared plates, charcuterie and appetisers to grills, all day dining and decadent desserts. In the sophisticated setting filled with lots of timber, marble, vaulted surfaces and glass, this airy space has a traditional Parisian feel. Raised in Northern France, Executive Chef, Fabien Wagno takes culinary cues from timeless dishes of the classic French bistro. His food is not fussy and flavours are bold. Translating to ‘drinking hole’ in English, Buvette is far more than just a drinking hole - it’s a place of good food, great wine, excellent service and incredible atmosphere.
