Avoid the profiteroles. Truly terrible and overpriced. Also a restaurant that charges you extra for paying by card! I used to love going to this restaurant.

Great food, attentive and knowledgeable waiters. Deserves its reputation for fine food and service. Our meals arrived altogether and beautifully prepared. I’m coming back.

Food very good. Atmosphere pleasant. We had a baby in a pram and the Head waiter was excellent arranging suitable seating. Unfortunately the other female waiter was quite rude and not at all accommodating of the pram, she was curt and acted as though the baby was an inconvenience! That was the only (but significant) difficulty with an otherwise pleasant experience.

excellent food quality, but overpriced for relatively simple cooking and expensive drinks, faultless service but no surprises and pretty limited choice of Australian wines

Incredible space and service. The food delicious. Their negroni’s are on point! Linguine con Gamberi is an absolute must have. Brilliant evening.

Friendly professional service. Calamari was a bit chewy and took a while to get the bill but other than that was a lovely meal. Bit over priced though

Well... have been going from day Ronnie opened and never tire of dishes. An institution, adore the waiters in their white tuxedos. But it’s the food, wine and atmosphere that keeps us returning a few times a year in an area that that exquisite and very iconic and true Melbourne restaurants

This place is a bit of a trendy institution and always busy. Had the veal rib stuffed with fontina and ham (?) and then breadcrumbed. Quite nice. Our companions had lasagne and Milanese veal cutlets. All big portions and all quite nice but unreasonably expensive for what it is. The waiters are a bit snooty and got even worse when we didn’t tip, although they really didn’t deserve a tip.

This is what a restaurant should be. Amazing experience from start to finish. Wait staff went above and beyond and the food was so tasty. Highly appreciate the effort the team went to

Consistently sets the bar for Melbourne restaurants. Ample number of knowledable helpful efficient wait staff, quick turn around and fantastic food. I had the risotto which was the best I’ve ever tasted.

The food at Di Stasio is always good. The ambience was a little off as we were the only ones in the restaurant. However, $750 for 3 people is insanity

Glass of champagne offered as we sat down turned out to cost $27! Would have appreciated a heads up or cheaper alternative - felt tricked. Didn’t feel the fine dining quality was as high as previous visits some years ago.

The restaurant is kind a cool, but too noisy and crammed with too many tables. My saltimbocca romana was disappointing to say the least. Finally the staff are attentive but "banging" on the Italian a little too much, sorry guys.

They haven’t aged a day!

How many restaurants do you know that have been around since the eighties? Now how many do you know that are as current as Michelangelo’s twitter feed? Cafe di Stasio is St Kilda’s veteran eatery that’s as hip as any. Praised by both locals and critics, Cafe di Stasio is dressed to impress. Its moody lighting and sophisticated setting make it the quintessential inner-city hang out hip, neat and just the right amount of fancy. This place doesn’t shy from the contemporary, nor from hanging up work by the provocative artist Bill Henson. Cafe di Stasio does Italian cuisine just the way the Melbournians like it. They craft their pasta not once, but twice daily, and have special spins on classic favourites. Why not try some of their Bread maltagliati with calamari and radicchio or their home made Linguine with prawns? You’ll have the perfect wine to complement your meal, as these guys get their wine from the very best local and international sources. If you haven’t been to this St Kilda favourite yet, you better get on it.

Best dish: Casseula di ceci (Tuscan-style chickpeas, black cabbage and tomato with garlic bruschetta
