Really disappointed that this restaurant has declined so fast since my last visit to Darwin 6 months earlier. The food although still expensive was really dry (for the steak) and cold for the vegetables. Nobody came back to the table to ask how our food was - so we mentioned it when paying the bill at the end. The care factor was none existent which made us think that they are very used to receiving complaints. Won't be back.
The only issue I had the entire night was the heat inside, which is understandable in Darwin during the wet season. Other than that we loved everything and would highly recommend.
All the staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was amazing and perfwct for my romantic date.
A must-visit restaurant in Darwin!
Wonderful venue with a wine list to applaud & very friendly service
Beautiful location for a sunset but the food was overpriced and very average. Even the waiter was laughing at our $199 bill for one starter 2 mains one dessert a half bottle of wine and a cocktail.
Each person enjoyed their meal flavours but really the portion sizes could be a bit bigger. The ravioli was quite small in serving. The steak with lentils needed something like a bed of mash. The risotto could have been slightly larger. Steaks were really nice but the potato bake lacked richness. Can’t believe the banoffee pie is off the menu, it was the main reason I chose the restaurant for my birthday dinner. Sticky date just could not match it.
Fabulous last night experience. Fined twice at Char during our seven day visit. Excellent both times. Highly recommend.
Best fresh snapper and barramundi we have ever tasted. Home made wagyu spring rolls super tasty. Ambience. Views. Great service.
The food was amazing and the best we have had in darwin!
Nicholas's service was outstanding. He was very professional friendly and efficient. The fish of the day was superb, beautifully presented and delicious. The recommended wine complimented this gorgeous meal. great ambience .
Char was highly recommend to us by good friends. Unfortunately, out experience was not that great. While the steak was excellent, the ravioli was over- salted and the 2 X risottos were cold and had to be returned to be re-done. While the waitstaff were outwardly friendly, they were rather supercilious in their attitude. We also told them when booking that we were there for a special occasion and this was ignored. This is not a cheap restaurant and we specifically chose Char on recommendation to celebrate a special occasion and that it did not live up to its promise is disappointing.
Great atmosphere, book an outside table.
Nice to see 2 Sparkling Shiraz options
A beautiful location with professional service and nicely presented food. However, for the price, the food was quite underwhelming. The scallop entree did not work with vanilla (though they scallops were cooked beautifully), the octopus with warm potato salad was not warm at all - again, cooked beatifully but lacked flavour. The steaks were flavoursome and cooked to perfection but the accompanying dauphinoise tasted like pure nutmeg and the red wine jus was runny and bland. It was OK - but honestly, The Cav & Telegraph (Mantra) offer better value, size and flavour.
Overall very satisfied
Great restaurant, but expensive.
Beautiful view of sunset, good food
Terrible service Very ordinary food
What a major disappointment, group of friends meeting for the last time for a long time to be greeted with a pre booked table not ready. The fish meals some were good, others barely cooked and one raw. The replacement was sent out way after we had all finished to find the replacement fish raw again. The wine list ridiculously over priced. COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTING ??

Nice to meat you...
Be it an intimate meal for two, a formal business lunch or a night out with friends, Char Restaurant is the place to be seen. This unique and contemporary venue is truly one of a kind, delivering fresh local produce and innovative cuisine coupled with exceptional service and style. The restaurant itself is set in the grounds of the beautiful Admiralty House making it a stunning tranquil location for all occasions.
The obvious thing to order is steak or seafood - both are prepared and presented to absolute perfection - chosen by esteemed restaurateur John Kilroy. Although the a la carte menu is very enticing desserts are also worth saving room for… there’s chocolate indulgence, creme brulee, banoffee pie plus a selection of cheeses!
Best dish: steak of course !
