Made booking / received confirmation, however on arrival was told the booking was invalid. Drove 1hr each way. Understand the Covid19 restrictions but the situation should have not happened this way. There was no attempt in finding alternate solution or compensation.
This is our fourth visit to Circa. Staff are always friendly who were very knowledgeable with each of the dishes. Food was amazing, thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Only negative was the chairs are really uncomfortable and dont encourage you to stay any longer than necessary.
We had the 5 course meal with paired wines. 4 of the dishes were delicious but the other was not enjoyable and very much required an acquired taste. The pre-dessert cake tasted like a supermarket bought cake and filled us up completely. We felt it was unnecessary. Overall the food was well presented and enjoyable though. The paired wines were mostly well matched but the volume of wine was disappointing. I would suggest we only received 75ml of wine per dish. For the $60 per person cost it is way over priced and we felt we had to ration each sip. Finally the service from the waitress staff was enjoyable and made for an interactive experience. It was a shame the wine waiter was not of the same mindset as he did not offer any chat and didn’t smile once. Overall it is clear the chefs care a great deal about the food and it shows with quality ingredients that are well presented. Shame the experience was not consistent throughout and value for money for a $400 meal.

Beautiful ambience, friendly & pleasant staff who were knoedgable about what they were serving. Top quality gourmet dining - great value for money. Old world charm. Well maintained building. Quality service. Will come back again!
Set menus, either 2, 3 or more elaborate 5 or 7 courses but no matter what you choose, the kitchen is turning out amazing dishes, usually with some items grown in the garden outside. Surprisingly for such a fine dining restaurant, some families had their very bored children, a few with headphones from the start. Why come here if that's the case? But for the rest of us, those whose parental IQ might be higher than single digit, it's an amazing meal. The front-of-house is not up to the kitchen's standards but it is the cuisine and presentation that wins the night.

Our experience at Circa 1876 was awesome! Such a unique experience in a restaurant with so much history! A must to do when visiting the Hunter! Service and food was 5 star!! Thankyou to Karen and the Chef for their attention and warmth! It was appreciated!! A very special experience!!
My boyfriend and I booked lunch on Sunday for our very first weekend getaway trip. The food is absolutely delicious at Circa 1876. My boyfriend and I enjoyed very much especially the Smoked Venison Fillet! The only downside from our lunch is the waiting time during the 3 courses. However, we understand and appreciate the delicious and creative food. Also, the big table next to us , the kids were jumping around us were a little unpleasant but again we were carried away by the delicious food. Overall, i must say I'll revisit again:)
Could not fault the service or the exceptional food, our waiter Brent was fabulous and an absolute asset to the restaurant. Would highly recommend, this was my third visit to the restaurant and I will be dining here every time I visit the Hunter Valley.

The food and service was lovely however the portions of the food was tiny so when you spend $75 for a two course meal you shouldn’t expect to be hungry afterwards
