First time at Coal River . The hot chocolates needed a little more chocolate, little less milk the were quite weak for their size. The food was average (burnt pancakes, hot and cold food on the plates) with minimal flavour BUT the service from all staff was some of the best I've seen in a while. We felt very welcome and comfortable, the staff were extremely friendly, made up for the average food, will definitely be back :)

Welcoming staff in a nice small environment.... which was a touch noisy with the crowd there. Food was simple and mostly local. A very nice spot to stop for a quick bite.

Had dined here a few years prior and had a good experience except today it was a polar opposite. Venue seemed quite dirty, of a table of five one of the meals was forgotten and not acknowledged. After the meals were served the waitress did not return to see if we were having a pleasant experience or to offer any more beverages or any dessert offerings, after finishing meals our cramped table was not cleared after 25 minutes and apon paying there was no apology for the forgotten meal or enquirie as to how the service was. Am in no rush what so ever to return or reccomend to any friends or family. One positive was that the food was of above average quality but not overly warm by the time it had reached the table.

Love this place - great food, great service, coffee could be better as it was a bit weak & luke warm (I drink decaf but like plenty of flavour - decaf coffee often seems to be made too weak!) other than that it was excellent :)

While space was a little limited, the atmosphere is truly good, and the staff are friendly, welcoming, and very efficient. The menu is nicely different, and the food is excellent, each dish is filling without being too much.

Staff were super welcoming. View amazing, food fresh and tasty - we had 2 share plates and a good wine. Cheese sales super reasonably priced. Disappointed they didn’t have fish options for Good Friday but they offered to alter ploughmans lunch. Enjoyable experience.

Food was nice, staff welcoming. Got quite noisy when full. Some drinks on the expensive side. Nice touting of local produce, cheeses and chocolates.

Lovely location but the food and service were a little disappointing. Most of us ordered the ploughman’s lunch and considering we were at a cheese ( and chocolate ) farm we had expected at least 2 cheeses with the lunch. There was plenty of meat ( fine but not amazing ) and one smallish piece of cheese! Not the best was to advertise your products! Also, when we initially arrived it was fairly quiet, but became busy and the service dropped. We waited some time for our plates to be cleared and would have ordered dessert, but ended up buying a few take away chocolates and skipping dessert.

Gem of a find. Last day of our 2 week adventure and it was a real highlight. The view is gorgeous, we both enjoyed our lunch, and really enjoyed our dessert :) Indy was a fun waitress and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend

Food was amazing, venue was excellent, usually have no worries with table service but asked for ice three times for our drinks and still ice was not provided, even after waitress said she would be back in a minute with it.

About the restaurant

Modern food with a farmy twist

It’s hard to describe what kind of food Coal River Farm dishes up, because even the faces behind this wonderful foodie venture don’t know how to explain it. The closest description is this: Modern Australian cuisine with a farmy twist. It doesn’t fit into a specific category, but that’s okay. It’s unique, and it’s theirs. Chefs take the best seasonal produce from the local Coal River Valley and turn out some modern takes on classic dishes that are simply devine. Open for breakfast and lunch, this is a fabulous daytime spot to come not only for food, but for a farmy adventure too. In addition to the restaurant Coal River produces cheese and chocolate and offers fruit picking. Don’t spend an hour here, spend a few. It’s worth it.

Best dish: open shepherds pie of slow roasted lamb in red wine, roasted leeks and green beans
