Meet the Chef

Consistency and classic cooking are the hallmarks of Greg Favretto's cooking. Greg started as an apprentice in the 80's at Swains, an Adelaide premier seafood restaurant renowned for its silver service and lavish dishes. After moving around and working up the ranks, he settled into his role as Head Chef at The Cork and Cleaver and has been for over 20 years. Greg keeps up with international cooking trends by travelling to markets, restaurants and eateries around the globe.

    Cork & Cleaver is always a perfect dinner date out. Great staff, Devine entrees and steaks, and wine just tops it off. Always the top of our special occasion restaurant choice!! Thank you for a fabulous night, again!!

    Having been to this restaurant several times over the years this was my second visit since the relaxation of COVID restrictions. The quality of the food remains very high. On my previous visit I had the steak tartare prepared expertly at the table and on this occasion steak with Morton Bay Bugs wrapped in bacon accompanied by Bearnaise Sauce. We tend to have the recommended wine but there is an excellent selection to choose from. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and attentive. We have already made a reservation for our next visit.

    The food was so good our steaks cooked to perfection. With the complementary meatballs, bread and olive oil to start off with the mains were enough. We got takeaways of the soup and a jar of the meatballs to enjoy home No room for dessert . The Coonawarra cab sav piccolo small btle delicious.

    Great food and very good service. Will be back again for our annual celebration. Good wine cellar and very helpful wine waiter. 120 characters is too many.

    This place has been around for almost 42 years. I can say the service is always outstanding and warm and professional. Unlike a couple of other places we dined at recently. They truly know the meaning of hospitality. Whilst the food is predicable and largely unchanged so is the predictability of the quality. Its excellent. And I can highly recommend their parfait for dessert. And I have bought hundreds of their meatballs over the years. So good!!

    Old fashioned and reliable, with food and service standards seen in the past bit rarely now. You get what you expect, and that’s a good thing. Steak. Meatballs. Bread. Dessert. Our local and worth visiting regularly.

    The usual good food service and great quality. Steaks arrived as requested and my extra sides of beans and slivered almonds hit the mark. Wine service excellent.

    Very pleased to find this restaurant on TripAdvisor. Chose it because it had good reviews and was not far from our hotel. On arrival we were met by the owner, who was very welcoming. We then learned that most of the staff were his extended family, and it showed in the service and attention to detail. We all chose the chateaubriand. We didn't order a starter, but were given an entree of meatballs on the house, which were delicious. The chateaubriand came with plenty of fresh vegetables, which were perfectly cooked and so was the meat. Would highly recommend and will certainly visit again the next time we are in Adelaide.

    One thing that really impressed was that while there was a mistake made with one meal, it was rectified immediately and without any issue. It felt like the staff genuinely cared a lot about how your meal went.

Fabulous for meat lovers The Cork and Cleaver is proudly in its 38th year in Adelaide, and boasts that it may just have one of the finest steaks in Australia. The comfortable and homely décor allows you to really settle in for your meal, and be well looked after by the staff, who you may well meet each time you return as there are those who have been around for quite a while; always a sign of a good place to work and be.
