Fabulous fish dinner! And very generous chef to share his delicious wintery fish stew recipe. We will be back :)

'Tomato dinner' Food delicious. Was still a little peckish when I left. I expected something a little more intimate eg a table with the other people attending the tomato dinner. (That would have been good).

Cornersmith were open for dinners in the past (we really enjoyed them), however they've ceased evening opening hours and are now focusing on seasonal dinners, now and then. We attended the 'Tomato' dinner the other night. The staff were pleasant, the atmosphere lovely - however, viewing staff eating behind the counter (and then even chewing en route to tables) was a definite put-off. I've been there, you get hungry, but I don't think it's on to munch and chew in full view of diners. I did have to ask for some bread to go with the buratta dish (no bread-on-the-side provided). I'd have thought a side of sourdough or whatever would have been a part of the set menu but no... it was kindly provided when asked for though (we were drinking too, so kinda needed it!). The lady behind the counter who was managing (making?) most of the dishes seemed to be working seamlessly and professionally. We loved all the food, (very tasty and imaginative), however, I can't lie, we did go home hungry. All in all, I guess I felt like the restaurant was given over to the young staff member to take care of for the evening. All good but maybe some housekeeping in order? I don't know... i wanted to love it again but it was a wee bit off unfortunately.

Last night we went to a special menu night “Tomato Feast”. It was a peebookes set menu for the entire restaurant. It was one of the best meals I have eaten in my life. We have been going to Cornersmith since it first opened and also have the cookbooks which we use regularly. Love the community values of the restaurant but the food last night was spectacular.

This was certainly a little gem of a place. It was like walking into a family kitchen. The menu had a great variety so we decided to order a few plates to share so we could all sample. The eggplant with lentils and spicy harissa was delicious along with the sardines and fennel. The flavours all blended beautifully and the dishes were so tasty. The waitress was extremely attentive and the staff very friendly. I highly recommend Cornersmith and will be back.

We went to Cornersmith last night to celebrate our son completing high school. I have read alot about Cornersmith and the classes they hold, their values on food and as my family hold similar values around food, we wanted to experience Cornersmith. We were not disappointed! Each plate was full of deliciousness and real food which filled our bellies to overflowing! Thank you - it was a wonderful night!

About Cornersmith

Cornersmith Marrickville is your new local, from morning to night. Come for your coffee and breakfast in the morning, add a beer to your ploughman’s at lunch, then join us until late for wine and share food. This Marrickville institution will be serving a mix of share plates with a rotating wine list and drinks made with housemate fermented sodas and syrups. Like the rest of the Cornersmith, Marrickville only serves food that has been thoughtfully produced and sourced. This means strictly seasonal, ethical and from as close as possible. You might even find some of the food on your plate has been traded from the backyards of neighbours. From the food to the drinks, there is be a big focus on house-made pickles and ferments, think; fermented soda spritz and share plate with pickled mackerel and cucumber kimchi with a local cheese. The food will be a simple, yet delicious way of eating that ties us back to the community. Come down and see for yourself.
