Cris's Place

We arrived early 15 mins before the restaurant formally opened and the welcome at that stage was disappointing - we were not offered for example a seat at the bar so had to go away and come back later. However once seated the welcome was much friendlier and our meal was very good. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The €40 3 course meal including house wine (which was excellent for house wine) and water was good value.

We found Chris’s Place a little pretentious. The food was not at all so fancy.

This restaurant was a new find for us, and well worth visiting. The ambience, service and food was all excellent, and this particular evening included a carol singing female quartet, who distinctly added to the evening. Will definitely visit again!

If you are looking for a fun Advent Saturday night out with an amazing atmosphere book this restaurant now.The set menu offered a wide range of options and turned out to be excellent value at 40 Euros a head as it included free flowing wine a Prosecco aperitif several between course amuses bouches and delicious tea and coffee with crispy Portuguese tarts.I always have mint tea and this one was the best ever, made with an abundance of fresh mint.The sea bass main looked and tasted good and included an unusual smoked sea bass roulade as well as nicely presented crunchy vegetables .Finally we were exceptionally well entertained for most of the evening by a quartet of wonderful madeiran singers bringing Christmas alive.

As normal Cris’s Place comes up to scratch. Reliable food, excellent service , standards remain high and food excellent. I wish I had known they pick up and drop off clients, it would have saved my feet but did help my waistline!

I found the waiter to be very unfriendly and snobbish. When I asked if they carry Fever Tree ginger ale or beer he snickered at me and said “no we do not carry ginger ale. Fever tree hinder beer is high end dinner beer lots of high end places serve. Never once did the waiter return or where we asked if our food was ok. We where. Ever offered water and had to ask for everything.

So glad we found this place. The whole experience was great. Food very tasty and a good amount. Staff were attentive and friendly Live singing also added to a good atmosphere. We went for the €40 Deal which was good value for money as it includes 3 courses, wine, water and tea/ coffee. We’ve booked to go again.

Absolutely wonderful place. Did the 40 Euro menu -why wouldn’t you?? Chose from the menu plus endless wine. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was perfect and all with a smile. Took great care of the member of our party who was gluten free. A really lovely meal. Three courses plus coffee wine and water what great value. Highly recommend and we will definitely return .

Super evening at Chris's Place. Service was impeccable and food as delicious as it looked! We ordered from the 'Concept' menu and were not disappointed as choices were varied and each course was as scrumptious as the previous. The extra dishes serviced before (cream cheese with caviar), between (strawberry sorbet) and with coffee elevated this meal beyond our expectation. Definitely will be also be returning to this restaurant of Chris's next time we visit Madeira. Chris's restaurants are the best!

Absolutely phenomenal - we went for my mum's 70th birthday. The food, staff and service were all just perfect and the ambience was spot on. They even dressed the table which was a great surprise and really appreciated by her and us. I could not fault this restaurant even if i wanted to and would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone. Thanks guys, you were just perfect.

The meal we had tonight was one of the best I have ever had. First of all we picked the 3 course $45 dinner. With that came unlimited house wine that’s made by Cris and as good as any $60-$130 Wine you get at a restaurant in the U.S. I started with the wild game appetizer and every morsel was better then last. For main course I had the lamb shank and it was probably the best lamb I have ever had at a restaurant. Now that’s saying something since I’m from Iceland and we know lamb. After that came the fluffiest cheesecake I have ever had. The taste was like angels dancing in your mouth. If you find yourself in Funchal do not let this gem of a restaurant slip by.

An excellent meal in all respects, with an excellent musician , real bonus

Cris's Place exceeded all expectations. It was quite simply the perfect evening in all respects.

The reason I came back to Madeira. Not disappointed. Although the foie gras gravy on the steak last time was better than the sauce this time. Still excellent though.

Superb in every way! The service was absolutely impeccable, the atmosphere/ambiance was relaxing and very pleasant and the food was absolutely delectable!. Thank you to all for a fabulous dining experience.
