Meet the Chef

Peter began his cooking career in 1976 as an apprentice chef working in some of Adelaide’s top restaurants of the time. He spent the early 80’s broadening his horizons working both interstate and overseas before returning home and becoming a forerunner in South Australia’s food culture. Taking the helm at d’Arry’s Verandah in 2004, Peter’s strong belief in the local and seasonal produce of the Fleurieu Peninsular along with his taste for global cuisines has seen the restaurant reach icon status.

CANCELLATION POLICY When you make a reservation with us we trust that you will honour that reservation by arriving on time with the total number of guests booked. To this end, all reservations require a credit card number to secure the booking. We do not process a deposit and understand that plans can change. Any request for an alteration to an existing booking with the appropriate notice will be granted if availability allows. We cannot guarantee a request for alteration will be possible. As we have limited tables of certain configurations, a request for alteration may result in no availability. In this instance we will offer the opportunity to join the waiting list.     Our food was excellent with no complaints whatsoever. The service was disappointing as we expected more for the price we paid for the Degustation and pairing wines 'package'. The waitress knew her banter but to us it appeared like it was just a banter she was required to speak and after each course delivery an immediate departure from the table upon the last word spoken by her. There was no feeling / engagement with her or with her message or her body language. She continuously used the 'expression' 'Too Easy' which was most annoying. We even noticed another pair on a table make a comment to each other. It put us off our enjoyment for the occasion.

    Beautiful food and excellent service. We had the 8 course winter degustation without the wine pairing. The waiter was attentive and helpful in aiding us to select a glass of wine each (had the Love Grass which was lovely). We will be visiting again.

    Our second visit to the restaurant and was not disappointed. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful . The food amazing, we had Elk! Who would have thought, but it was so tasty. The whole experience was lovely.

    We came for lunch on a Friday. The staff were very welcoming and lovely as normal. The food was presented very well and was delicious. Slow lunch which is what we like but well paced and attention to detail and drinks at all times no matter how busy.

    Delightful restaurant, excellent food, knowledgeable staff with an excellent grasp of the wines they are presenting. The degustation lunch including the lobster bisque an souffle is not to be missed.

    Their signature dish is hands down, the BEST seafood dish I have ever had in my life! Absolutely superb and I'm kicking myself that I didn't have it when I visited the restaurant 8 years ago...

    When my glass of wine wasn’t to my liking there was no offer of an alternative replacement glass. For a winery this is poor form and not great for brand protection. We won’t be returning.

    The food is very good and the service fabulous but the setting and decor is very tired - especially for the prices they charge. Need a good refurb - everything from chairs to napery - to be considered fine dining.

    We thoroughly enjoyed dining at D'Arry's Verandah. The food was delicious, especially the lobster medallion with blue swimmer crab and prawn tortellini and lobster bisque ( part of the Spring Signature Degustation). Generous wine pairings accompanied each course - 2 wines per course - with expert commentary about the features of the wines. In addition, service was excellent. Allow 2 - 2.5 hours to really enjoy all that is on offer! This is a fabulous dining experience.

    What an outstanding afternoon, from arrival to departure and everything in between. It was a wonderful way to spend the day with fine food, fine wine, and excellent service.     Absolutely amazing experience! I would highly recommend d’Arry’s Verandah to anyone visiting the cube! We did a wine tasting in the cube before our degustation too! Great experience!

    The wine and food we experienced at this lovely location was simply wonderful. It was a windy day, so we ate inside, but the restaurant is atmospheric and had a spectacular outlook. The waiting staff explained that one of the dishes we ordered had been on the menu for 17 years or more and we could see why. It was delicious. We look forward to being able to go back one day and sample some other delights from the menu and enjoy the beautiful SA location.

    Went with friends for lunch and had the best food, wine and service I would highly recommend anyone to go and will be going back again. After lunch we went to The Cube to enjoy wine tasting, great experience.

    We regularly attend d'ARENBERG and love the verandah restuarant. Every time i have given it 10/10 for all elements of food and service but today's experience was not up to the high standard we usually experience. The pumpernickel seeds which the beef tartare was on were so hard that they were almost inedible, the guests i was dining with were disappointed with the sage gnocchi. In saying that the soft centered chocolate pudding was spectacular and this element remained a 10/10. The wait staff seemed a bit flustered and, understandably, it was busy. Rather than have one waiter/waitress take care of the table we had many check in, unaware that someone else had just checked in. This meant that the 'ladies and gentlemen' addressed etc were laid on a bit thick. I also like to be able to enjoy the experience and continue to chat after our meal and found the 2PM wrap up a little awkward. I hope that this feedback is useful and we get the wonderful 10/10 experience that d'ARRY's usually delivers on out next visit.
