    The staff were very welcoming and always willing to help. Gorgeous surroundings and fantastic food. Wine was a great choice! The surrounding vineyards at sunset beautiful.

    We booked a Monday lunch and choose a three course lunch to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. The food and wine was superb and the wait staff great, very considerate of my wife's dietary requirements. Thanks for a very memorable long lunch...David

    Terrific food and wine with very personable service, all in a very attractive setting. The staff make this experience special. The people who look after the gardens and grounds should also be complimented.

    We have visited Locale on numerous occasions over the decades and have found the food consistently good. The current chef Ben Levene serves up particularly flavoursome dishes which are always presented most attractively . Highly recommend the Tiramisu which is spiked with their own drop ‘Noble One’. $70 for two courses is getting a little steep and would recommend that a tea or coffee be included in the deal to entice more patrons. Overall a very nice dining experience.

    Always a problem, when you come back years later after some excellent meals in the past. For starter the venison terrinne was OK, a bit on the salty side and quite compact. The herbs/salad to go with had nearly no dressing at all. My main was beetroot-ravioli: and the pasta was coloured with the beetroot, whereas the filling was a ricotta-cheese filling, I presume. For my taste the pasta dough was not thin enough ( we make our own at home..) and the filling was quite dry, My partner choose the quail salad and the snapper as fish of the day. He was satisfied with his starter and his main dish. Regarding the service, we were not that happy to feel that asking for alternative wines to accompany a dish seems already stressful. And recommending first a rose, than Chardonnay that a red wine, does not feel like being in knowledgeable hands.

    Have dined a number of times at De Bortoli over the years and it is indeed a quality restaurant, ideal for special occasions. On this occasion, it was my friend's birthday and we were enjoying a fun and relaxing day out in the Yarra Valley. Absolutely cannot fault our meal, the service (friendly and charming) and the ambiance, it ticks all the boxes. Added bonus, I got to use my Entertainment Book voucher.

    We had the 2 courses, starting with a tasting plate for 2 and the aged ribeye. The steak was cooked to to our liking, medium rare, was tender and juicy. Still one of my favorite goto restaurants at the Yarra Valley.

    Excellent setting looking out over the vines. We had been looking forward to having dinner there. The staff were very attentive as it was quiet in the restaurant. I took my mum there for her birthday dinner unfortunately, it was a little underwhelming. My fish was overcooked and still had the tendon in it which was not pleasant. Mum had the duck and it was a bit chewy. I would go back and be more mindful of what dishes we choose.

    We enjoyed a plentiful Sunday lunch and were very happy with the food and service. It is such a beautiful setting overlooking the gardens. Will definitely return.

The winery restaurant 'Locale' reflects the De Bortoli family's Italian heritage in name and nature and offers Italian-inspired dishes that celebrate the abundance of local and seasonal produce available. Take a seat in the sunny dining room overlooking the vines to enjoy the very best the Yarra Valley has to offer, matched with quality estate grown wines. Many of our ingredients are grown on the Yarra Valley Estate and hand-picked by head chef, Ben Levene and his team. The menu reflects the seasons as distinctly as the views of the vineyards from the restaurant windows. Home made pasta and authentically cooked risotto are menu constants while the sauces and ingredients that go with them change depending on the time of year.
