This was once a very, very good restaurant. Regrettably, in my estimation its enjoyment value has declined somewhat. 1. It appears to be a men only restaurant. I have attended the restaurant twice very recently and it was attended only by men. Accordingly, I would now be reluctant to take my partner there for lunch. 2. In my view the attending staff are inappropriately dressed and not properly trained in the hospitality industry. 3. The tables are so arranged that if you are not seated alongside the windows the table staff are constantly moving between you and other patrons-quite intrusive and disconcerting. 4. In the past the meals were of the highest quality but yesterday I was serve "yearling" dressed up as veal. Misleading and quite disrespectful. Also, my pre-luncheon beer had no head indicating a failure to ensure that the detergent was fully rinsed from the glass. 5. I believe that this restaurant could once again achieve the standard it once held with sound management/selection of staff, careful of monitoring of food quality and an eye for detail. The Oaks Hotel in neutral Bay would be a good example of how a hotel dining room should deliver.

First rate steak every time. Their eye fillet with bernaise sauce is my go to and you just can't fault it! Solid wine list.

The waitress actually tipped a whole bottle of wine on to my new white shirt! Nightmare! But, they were so nice about it and offered to buy a new shirt. My office is around the corner so I went and changed quickly. The bill should have been $180 but when it came it was only for $40. They really took care of me! I’m actually going back today for another business lunch!

One of just a few "boys" meeting places in Sydney where steak is the theme and bankers and financiers get to see each other.

Atmosphere rated low as we were in overflow room on second floor. Normally good vibe to be found on first floor dining area.

Great restaurant and love the slightly old school vibe. Just slightly too expensive for a regular.

About Fairmont at Occidental Hotel

Sail Away The Fairmont restaurant is a one-of-a-kind relic from a former time. It’s housed in The Occidental Hotel which is an historic hotel dating from the 1850s. Legendary around Wynyard Square, the hotel is the oldest building in the area, its old-timey architecture transporting you back to another era. Inside though, the hotel is breezy and sophisticated, populated with a lot of businessy types on breaks or meeting up for work.
