Lennox Hastie

Lennox Hastie is the chef and owner of Firedoor, Australia’s only fully wood fueled restaurant. Lennox spent his early career working at Michelin Star restaurants across the Europe. After seeking out a small asador with a tradition of wood-fired grilling, Lennox began pushing the limits of cooking over an open flame. Returning to Australia in 2011, Lennox opened Firedoor in 2015 with the Fink Group. The restaurant works instinctively with fire with the wood treated as a fundamental seasoning.

So, we ate too much. Picked the chefs menu, we started struggling towards the end. The food was amazing. We sat at the kitchen which was a fun experience to watch the chefs prepare your dinner. I am a fan of BBQ, so if you enjoy smelling like a freshly smoked piece of meat, then sit at the kitchen. The menu changes subtly so there may be something new next time you visit.

Our 33rd anniversary and we were really looking forward to Firedoor - unfortunately the service was incredibly slow right from the start and we didn’t end up with our mains till 1 hr 45 mins after we sat down (and that was after chasing them up). We were offered 2 comp desserts literally 20mins after our mains had been served- the timing and service was frustratingly inconsistent - Food was tasty but not amazing . And not even a good bye or thank you when we left!

Had wanted to go here for a few years and wasn't disappointed. Great food unique use of smoke and flame. A little stuck up but otherwise great. Expensive enough to avoid the degustation as we are a family but would do that as a couple. Great experience.

I was excited to go to Firedoor following excellent reviews in Broadsheet. I just keep coming back to the same feeling. Underwhelmed. The food was ok, the wine was ok and the service was ok. The price was not. There was certainly nothing wrong with my experience however there was nothing worth rushing back for

The Big Night Out - Vegetables are the Hero

Famed for a kitchen that cooks with no gas and no electricity, fire is the central ingredient at Firedoor. For the Big Night Out tasting menu chef Lennox Hastie places seasonally selected garden vegetables in the spotlight. "Garden-fresh vegetables are the most humble, honest and unassuming ingredient," says Hastie, "and yet grilling them over fire gives them a voice and a chance to sing. Diners are often surprised by just how good a vegetable can taste when they have been cooked over fire." Firedoor's Big Night Out tasting menu will be curated to what is best and freshest at the daily markets. 5 course menu - $100pp. Credit card details are requested for all reservations at Firedoor. Should you cancel your reservation within 24 hours of your reservation time, a $50per person late cancellation fee will apply.
