Value for money

The wine list and service were superb The food was over priced with extremely small serving sizes - poor value for money I think if I went again I would do the cheese board and wine ( which I have done before which was far better value)

We had a really good sirloin. Glasses of red and a good quality cheese board.

These guys have run an outstanding venue for years now, always changing and updating to try new things. They’re so welcoming and knowledgeable and professional, no snobbery here

Menu has been slightly updated but everything we had was great as always, great selection of wines and Stuart and the team are welcoming and attentive, a little on the pricey side but a nice treat

Great service and lovely staff

Food was slow to come out for our group of 8.... waited about 40 mins whilst other smaller tables around us were being served their lunch. Luckily we were not in a hurry but the group got ravenous waiting. Staff who served seems to be fairly new as he was unsure what was served with the dish (eg with chips or without) however he tried really hard and was very accommodating to our requests for glasses etc. Food quality is high

So we were treated very well. That casual way Aussie do... friendly, professional but you know it is genuine. Anyway, as I said, we were treated very well. Lots of chat, warmth and genuine care while we enjoyed our meal. But it was not just our experience that prompts me to write this review but rather the table of French (I think) that were next to us. They were wowed enough by the service to insist that the waitress joined them in a "happy new year" toast at was at their expense. Later they asked her to take a group photo but rather than just press the button the waitress demanded that the lights above the bar were turned off because it "spoilt the picture" This is someone who cares. We had no such demands but were treated with no less attention and care. Oh, and by the way... the food was exquisite and the wine list extensive.

As usual, a fine meal. We leave it to the Fix team to choose the food and as always it was delicious.

About Fix Wine Bar + Restaurant

The Best Bar None If The Australian’s wine columnist Max Allen is to be believed, then Fix St James should be next on your list of top wine bars serving top quality nosh. We’d forgive you if you’ve never seen or heard of this affable little hole-in-the-wall establishment squeezed between a discount suit shop and office block foyer. But now that you know about it, there are no excuses not to spend a lazy afternoon here when next in the city. On any given day you can ponder more than 200 eclectic wines on the 19 page wine list crafted by 2012 Sommelier of the Year, Stuart Knox, alongside some of Sydney’s well-heeled business community and notorious long-lunchers. We’d rave about the perfectly prepared roast chicken terrine, 18 minute steak or brown rice risotto but that wouldn’t be fair given the menu changes weekly - if not daily - to take full advantage of fresh seasonal Australian produce. Tables are generally easier to snag outside the office exodus period and staff won’t blink an eye if a couple of glasses of wine turn into an early dinner or late night cheese platter. Best dish: Any of the cheese boards.
