This is a terrific wine bar - but don't under-estimate the food which is truly innovative, modern and delicious. The staff are wonderful and really knowledgeable. A must try venue.
Was really looking forward to enjoying dinner with our BYO wine. Unfortunately our entrees were less than average ( school prawns and lamb XO chickpeas) and the mains of minute steak was OK. Shame but did enjoy our bottle of 2008 Yalumba Signature Cab Sav Shiraz was yum!
Returning here is to say HELLO! to old friends, discover the kitchen work is better than ever, & to enjoy the laid back service, informal but dedicated professionalism, & where there's nowhere to go if you refuse to join in the cross talk & smile a lot.. drinking wine & dining here is to truly enjoy yourself in Sydney. Highly recommended.
We had a quick business lunch. The minute steak and fries was excellent. A couple of glasses of red. The perfect lunch. I can highly recommend. A positive for me was it was very close to office.
Excellent meal supported by very knowledgeable advice on accompanying wine from Stu. Highly recommended for the scotch fillet and the citrus cheesecake
How it is Fix’s small kitchen so consistently delivers such first rate food is amazing... they just never seem to falter! Coupled with the friendly, bright-but always utterly professional - table service... and the outstanding wines on offer!..here’s that rare place in the CBD that also still welcomes your BYO if your own fine wine! A winner! Highly recommended.
The steak was rare and very fatty. My guest enjoyed the omelette. There was no questioning why I left 90% of my steak. The bread was good, the chips and veges were good.
Fix Wine Bar + Restaurant is a rarity in Sydney; it delivers consistently good food, wine and service. The wine list gives you the opportunity to experience a variety of interesting wines with a large number of wines by the glass. I am happy to visit this establishment for lunch, dinner or a drink after work with friends and business associates alike.
Great friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and very knowledgeable on wine
great food and service
Barramundi dish was good
Great night and fantastic wine list and food
The wine list and service were superb The food was over priced with extremely small serving sizes - poor value for money I think if I went again I would do the cheese board and wine ( which I have done before which was far better value)
We had a really good sirloin. Glasses of red and a good quality cheese board.
These guys have run an outstanding venue for years now, always changing and updating to try new things. They’re so welcoming and knowledgeable and professional, no snobbery here
Menu has been slightly updated but everything we had was great as always, great selection of wines and Stuart and the team are welcoming and attentive, a little on the pricey side but a nice treat
People are great , real interest in wine and a great atmosphere. Feels like a local.
Great service and lovely staff
Food was slow to come out for our group of 8.... waited about 40 mins whilst other smaller tables around us were being served their lunch. Luckily we were not in a hurry but the group got ravenous waiting. Staff who served seems to be fairly new as he was unsure what was served with the dish (eg with chips or without) however he tried really hard and was very accommodating to our requests for glasses etc. Food quality is high

The Best Bar None If The Australian’s wine columnist Max Allen is to be believed, then Fix St James should be next on your list of top wine bars serving top quality nosh. We’d forgive you if you’ve never seen or heard of this affable little hole-in-the-wall establishment squeezed between a discount suit shop and office block foyer. But now that you know about it, there are no excuses not to spend a lazy afternoon here when next in the city. On any given day you can ponder more than 200 eclectic wines on the 19 page wine list crafted by 2012 Sommelier of the Year, Stuart Knox, alongside some of Sydney’s well-heeled business community and notorious long-lunchers. We’d rave about the perfectly prepared roast chicken terrine, 18 minute steak or brown rice risotto but that wouldn’t be fair given the menu changes weekly - if not daily - to take full advantage of fresh seasonal Australian produce. Tables are generally easier to snag outside the office exodus period and staff won’t blink an eye if a couple of glasses of wine turn into an early dinner or late night cheese platter. Best dish: Any of the cheese boards.
