Nice ambience there and food tastes so good, but I can’t give 5 stars here as it’s lacking a lot in terms of services. The staffs were not friendly in the beginning. We asked for tasting menu $110 per person, and was asked to keep one menu at the table so we can look at the menu ourselves when each course is served. I found it so weird considering fine dining. So we paid $758 for 5 people. Couldn’t fault the food though. It’s yummy. I wish the service could be better.

The service was somewhat disappointing and I thought the food was very expensive for what you get. Long wait times for the food and to get the waiters attention to clear the table and offer dessert menus. One of the food orders came out incorrect and dealt with appropriately.

Food was amazing as well as the setting but the staff are too young and inexperienced.. they did make up for it with a few things on the house though

Thought we had booked in for lunch we were placed on verandah instead. Disappointed and slow service.

I've dined here previously and had fabulous food, but this time it wasn't the case. The bread we ordered to start with arrived together with our main meals, about 10 minutes after ordering. And the mains were almost cold. Felt like they were trying to turn the table around on a Friday night a little too quickly!

Just a fairy average experience. Nice food but slow service and a fairly flat atmosphere.

We are here twice during our stay and the food was great both times (we even ordered room service another time and that was great as well. The first time we dined in service was amazing, sadly not the second time although I’d guess they had new staff in, twice the took our dishes to another table, asking them if the food was theirs. Then they only cleared half our plates away, was another 15 minutes to come collect the rest. And then, after asking twice we gave up on the bill and just went up and paid. Shame about the service but don’t let that put you off as hopefully a one off. Definitely worth going for the food.

My new favourite restaurant! As always the service, the drinks, the food and the staff are excellent. They were so busy when we arrived but still held themselves together so beautifully. They were attentive, calm and organised. Even on the busiest nights, you still feel so at home because you don't get rushed out the door ready to be replaced, as in so many places in Byron. You actually feel welcomed and like you can take your time and finish your meal in peace. We absolutely love coming here! A great job by everyone!

We received a warm welcome by the hotel concierge upon arriving and ushered promptly to our table. You can’t help but gawk in amazement of the ‘forest’ backdrop and immediately start feeling zen and excited at what’s to come. All the staff are friendly and accommodating. We had asked for a replacement of one of the dishes in the set menu which was no trouble. The team there were knowledgeable, always smiling and very friendly. The set menu was well balanced and rounded. Each of the dishes providing an uncompromising delight of a mix of flavors and textures which sent your tastebuds to dreamland. While you can’t go past the roo tartare, the Barramundi was my dish of the night! It really was a delicious meal!

Beautiful location and delicious food...I had the steak and it was the best ever. Little bugs were annoying however the staff provided insect repellent. Totally recommend a visit there????

Walking into the resort and restaurant you will instantly feel the calming vibe of the forest complemented by the architecture and the well appointed furnishings of the place. Our fish mains were cooked just right accentuated with the seafood bisque and calamari. The desserts were an excellent finish to the meals. Very attentive service without the feeling of being over solicitous. A place to easily recommend to others and go back to.

Being in Byron Bay we wanted a formal dining experience, the Forest did not disappoint. As part of the Byron hotel, at the restaurant we seated on the outside edge where there was lovely view of the rainforest and the restaurant itself was quite sleek in decor. We ordered of the ala carte menu and would recommend the kangaroo tartare and lamb loin. The quality and presentation of the dishes made it a nice fine dine experience. Service was prompt and attentive. Expresso martini’s can be ordered and not on the list.

Been to this place many times over the years as we love the setting, but alas this was the most disappointing meal we have had. Food was bland and boring, wine list underdone and the desert (bee safe) was just terrible. What a shame

The food was ok but nothing that really stood out as you would expect at this level of restaurant. The to read at the bottom of the menu 15% surcharge on Sunday wow really. Disappointed

Staff were attentive without being intrusive, the setting is beautiful and tranquil. Food was delicious and perfectly cooked, particularly liked the prawns with avocado and apple.

We have eaten at this restaurant 6 times before and our waitress has worked there for a while and always looks after us very well. The portion size on the Snapper meal was extremely small. It was a busy time for the restaurant and we will eat there again we hope. Overall a nice experience. Thank you.

Kids running around. Teenagers yelling and throwing a football 5m from the tables. Service was OK but they had to keep checking with the kitchen and multiple people kept asking us the same questions

About the restaurant

Dinner amongst the rainforest

A meal at ‘Byron at Byron Restaurant’ - yes it’s confusing for us to say too - is a meal worth road tripping to Byron Bay for, or even worth planning a holiday around. With a focus on fresh, locally farmed produce, this Byron Bay beauty showcases Northern River’s local produce with passion. Everything here is lovingly planned and prepared under the guidance of Head Chef Gavin Hughes who has been at Byron since its opening. The food is light Mediterranean style and the menu changes each season to reflect the diverse regional offerings. It’s a true paddock to plate approach. But it’s not all about the produce and the food. The stunning open plan dining areas take advantage of the gorgeous rainforest, making you feel at one with nature while you dine. The breathtaking backdrop along with the fine food make for a truly memorable experience. Don’t miss out on this one.

Best dish: roasted new England rump of lamb
