Meet the Chef
In 1981, Nino Cea opened Geppetto Trattoria with the vision to create an unpretentious eatery that focused on Italian home-style cooking. This idea was inspired by those eateries found in his hometown region of Puglia in Italy. Nino has work in kitchens across the world since 1967. Moving to Melbourne in 1974 Nino worked as the chef/manager of the then famous Campari Bistro on Hardware Lane. Whilst working at Campari Bistro Nino also got experience as a waiter and pizza maker at Toto's Pizza on Lygon Street. In 1979 Nino moved on to Degraves Pizza in Degraves Street Melbourne CBD where he honed his a la carte skills before opening Geppetto Trattoria in 1981. 10/10This is a delightful authentic Italian restaurant with an excellent menu and great wine list. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive. The setting is intimate and each time we go it just gets better.

9.5/10Fantastic food, easy to get to from CBD accommodation. The wait staff were obviously very happy to be there and were cheerful and helpful. Food came out quickly and was utterly divine. We found it hard to choose as all dishes sounded so tasty; the roast goat was special! Slightly noisy but ambience was pleasant.

9.5/10Great little restaurant close to the MCG which was one of the main reasons we went there. The footy feast was a good meal and there was plenty of food. Good wine list at reasonable prices.

10/10I have been to this restaurant several times with friends and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and at a reasonable price. The staff are friendly and so very welcoming. The staff are very thorough, they go through and explain all the specials for that night. I will definitely be back. I can’t think of one bad thing to say. Keep up the great work.????

About the restaurant
An Italian institution of Melbourne with the same family owning it since 1981; Geppetto's is an genuine neighborhood icon and a must visit before any local event at the MCG, AAMI park or Rod Laver stadiums directly across the street.
Nino and his son serve up fresh, local and authentic dishes with a focus on pasta, seafood, offal and slow cooked dishes that are hard to find.
Some of the more popular plates include homemade gnocchi, braised osso buco, double roasted pork belly, eggplant parmigiana and carpaccio just to name a few. Fresh whole fish options change daily depending what the season offers!
