Meet the Chef

GOMA Executive Chef Douglas Innes-Will's approach to food combines modern, Australian-inspired cuisine with contemporary ingredients and techniques, focusing on locally sourced produce. Heading up the kitchen with Douglas are chefs Matt Blackwell and Michael Bickford, who previously worked alongside each other at Peter Gunn's Ides restaurant.

    A wonderful restaurant aiming at the higher end of the market with both degustation a la carte options. The waiters were attentive and knowledgeable and the food showcased amazing ingredients would highly recommend for a special occasion

    A well balanced menu of locally sourced food and wine, imaginatively presented and enhanced by well chosen Asian inspired tastes, used subtlety and not, as is often the case, over whelming the other ingredients. I personally found the barramundi a little rich but everything was perfection

    We had the 'Exhibition' menu and the dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. a good mix of flavours and ingredients. The wine pairings suited and enhanced the dishes.

    It's quite a while since I last dined at Goma restaurant. It's always had a good standard of food and service. Today the food was at its best ever. Delicious. Also loved the lovely light room enabling us to talk and eat without the bustle. Only point in the negative was the French champagne. Choices under $200 could have been better. Maybe another 1 or 2 on the list? The service was so good. Wait staff very well trained even to the point of correctly asking if it was ok to serve coffee with the dessert. Thanks for a good time!

    From the moment we asked on the staff looked after us with just the right amount of attention. Lovely peaceful surrounds, good choice of background music. We had a wine matched selection of small dishes. Each Dish was an adventure. Of complex texture temperature and flavour.. We both thought it the best meal we had ever had. Which is saying something given our travels and age. The wine and food was explained by the very able And charming staff. Truly a masterpiece meal for us....don’t miss it!!

    Seven course degustation with matching wines was amazing. The service was attentive, and knowledgeable and the food outstanding! This was our second visit, and we'll be back. The email communication regarding allergies was most appreciated, and ensured no embarrassment or fuss on the night.

    Amazing lunch, modern Australian food, absolutely delicious, only regret is that we didn't choose the degustation menu, will definitely do that next visit. Solid wine list, attentive staff with good knowledge of the menu..Loved the whole experience. Went prior to visiting the amazing Goma.

    A wonderful 5 course degustation. The care, thought and execution of the kitchen staff was outstanding. A really outstanding food experience. Also the wine waiter was particularly helpful in my choice of wines to go with the meal. My second experience here and most likely not my last.

    The reviews at GOMA have been exceptional on the whole. Decided to book in here to celebrate my hubby's 50th Birthday, had it booked for months. The build up was probably more exciting for me than the actual evening though. The Venue itself is actually a little disappointing, it is a small space which is fine, but it really didn't feel intimate. The view is certainly nothing to cry home about, it is a shame it doesn't occupy the spot at the front facing the city rather than overlooking the milk factory. This will improve as Southbank development gets underway. The menu is limited with approx. 4 choices per course, and this then as expected makes up the degustation menus. I had spoken prior to attending to the team there, who called to check dietary requirements which was great, I informed I didn't do spicy food so no chilli and no coriander either. On the night the waiter noted that I couldn't have the prawns which I was aware of, then said the pork was spicy with Chorizo (it actually wasn't) and that the duck dish was spicy with Sumac (which again it really wasn't). On being told this I really took a punt, because the other dishes were not something I wanted, thank goodness it turned out well as the dishes are not cheap. We ordered a bottle of Granite Belt wine from QLD which was really nice and not too pricey. The Somelier was very helpful, and chatty and came across as very friendly. Starters we chose the Prawn with Kimchi and fish eggs. My hubby really liked this, found it very nicely cooked and tasty, the eggs adding a nice texture and taste. I had the Pork Belly with fungi and master stock. The Pork was Sous Vide so was very tender and fell apart, the master stock very tasty with a good depth of flavour and the fungi although difficult to get on your fork were a nice addition to the dish. In fact despite my reservations this was the best course of the night. Mains we had the Lamb Burnt onion and pie mash. Hubby loved it, the Burnt onion puree was outstanding, a real depth of flavour, the lamb cooked perfectly. The pie mash was a little pie give separately. The other dish was the Duck with Macademia puree, turnip which was pickled and laced with Sumac and came with crushed Macademia and pomegranate. Whilst the dish was nice enough, the duck cooked well albeit some parts had sinew which made it a little chewy, the puree was lovely really smooth and the crushed nuts added texture. I didn't mind the pomegranate but there was a little too much, the turnip was interesting and cut through the fattiness of the duck. We also order the truffle mash, but even though my hubby loved it I actually found it a little too salty for my taste. We ordered just one dessert, the rum toasted pineapple. Whilst I didn't really fancy dessert, I tucked in for a spoonful of my hubby's and found it to be an amazing flavour particularly the liquorice puree .. this was not a sweet dessert and I think that's why we loved it, no stodgy chocolate in sight... One of the best desserts we have had. All in all, the food really couldn't be faulted, it is quite pricey in here, but there is no tipping at the end, so this is probably why. I enjoyed the meal but am not raving about it, I have had food that I enjoyed a lot more at places like Euro, and the price was not as expensive. I would say try it out.. give it a go but I am not sure I will be running back just yet a while.
