great welcome and service from arrival, even before mentioning booking + noticed each guest is warmly welcomed as an old friend, which makes a true difference. Service was great, breads were fresh and light, food was fragrant and tasty, with a hint of spiciness. Leftover food was packed instantly in 1 container (instead of wasting plastic, much appreciated). One thing was the table top that was wobbly.

Booked days in advance and on arrival asked to sit at table in front of frequently opening and shutting entry door on a freezing winter night and ( wait for it ) adjacent to a group celebrating a screaming 3yo's birthday. How can anyone enjoy a dining experience when they have been given the worst seats in the restaurant. When I asked to move to vacant seats I was told it was not possible as they were booked. What about my booking? The food was OK but lacked any imagination or flair. Overall very disappointed and will not be back.

A great family run restaurant that has been open for over 20 years and is always busy, so they are obviously doing something right. Great food, generous servings and very reasonable prices with a host/manager that is always running around making sure everyone is okay. He greets everybody like they were his best customer. Kids are always welcome and well looked after.

A bit pricey. Wouldn’t be the first choice if craving for Indian food.

The owner is very willing to modify the dishes to suit your level of hotness.

Beautiful place and great service but definitely not the best food I have eaten unfortunately. Also the cheese naan bread was with cottage cheese as well which I thought was a bit strange maybe that’s traditional and I’m wrong but I’ve never had one like that before.

About GurTaj Indian

Twenty years on, and still going strong Cheap, accessible and an all round good time, GurTaj Indian is always a good idea. This bad boy has been around since 1996 and has established a loyal local following. Serving fine northern Indian cuisine, these guys take pride in serving the freshest food using authentic herbs and spices. If you’re a curry fiend try the prawn malabar (it’s just divine) or maybe spice things up with a madras or vindaloo. Their mixed platter is one of our favourites and features chunky chicken tikka, plump samosas and more. With it’s excellent menu and warm and welcoming vibes, it’s no wonder that this venue is a local favourite. Best dish: mixed platter.
