Last time I dined here, there was a fuller food menu. Now it seems the focus is heavily on the drinks list and there are some bar snacks, which were very very delicious! The ambience has always been lovely and if you just want to have a good time with friends and have a good drink without Instagraming everything (yes, shocking concept!) there’s enough space to distance yourself from the iconic sign as well.

Hana has gone through a few tweaks over the time that it’s been open - a lot of the original staff, including head chef, have moved on. The size of the restaurant portion has also been decreased, focussing instead on more seating being available for the bar area. The menu has also significantly decreased in options, and portions, focussing more on “bites” than mains. However, as worrying as some of these points are, our recent visit was exceptional. The staff is incredibly attentive, the new menu options are delicious, and even though it’s moved on a bit from the original Hawaiian inspirations, there’s still enough of it present to give you a bit of the Island Feeling. The crispy seafood sushi is fantastic, as is the pork katsu sandwich and brisket bao. The decor is still perfectly kitsch, and the cocktails spectacular. Love the Hana Colada! My only wish: That the music was Hawaiian, and relaxing, rather than the more dance-ish stuff that tends to play a bit loudly. The restrooms still have the sort of music you’d expect to hear, which is great. We’ll definitely be back again soon.

Need better signage for the toilets, I was sitting nearby and pointed 5 or so people in the right direction and while I was eating and chatting, watched another 5 or so come closer, do the turn around and leave to ask a staff member.

Great food and service. Perhaps the music could've been turned down a bit considering there were only a handful of people in the bar area.

About Hana Bar

The road to Hana is paved with tiki-licious dishes. Named after Maui’s famously picturesque Hana Highway, Hana is nestled on Little Collins St in Melbourne’s CBD. With palm frond murals, hints of lush greenery and a dash of neon light signage to keep it cool, Hana specialises in what Hawaii does best - fresh, raw seafood and cocktails. If you’re planning to visit for lunch, we love the poke salads - a moreish concoction of raw fish, rice and other toppings. For dinner, the plates are designed to be shared, with winning dishes such as snapper ceviche with kumquat and tigers milk and more substantial main meals like the grilled lobster with carrot, cardamom puree and pickled shitake mushrooms. The atmosphere is electric, the food flavoursome and fresh. Visit Hana for a slice of Hawaiian paradise! Best dish: Tuna with watermelon, coconut and lime.
