Had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant with good friends. The food was delicious & the waitor was attentive but also gave us our space. Will definitely be back
A beautiful historic location should attract a great crowd. Sadly, on a very predictable menu there was very little to be excited about. Whilst our waitress tired hard to look after us, she was deflating that we were only people in the restaurant on a Friday night and the service reflected that. Our choice of drinks upon arrival were limited and at the very low end of the range. Gordon's gin was the only gin on offer. The knowledge about the beverages across the range on offer was limited. I ended up going into the area where the "bar" was and choosing for what i could see, which revealed a poorly stored "shelf "of a very limited selection of beverages. Our menu choices reflected the range available from the menu, but sadly there was limited sides, no beans or basic green salad. The chef kindly served a side of capsicum fennel and bokchoy, which were none of the veggies the waitress nominated...and sadly none of these veggies we would have chosen had we have known. The entree of pork belly was good with beautiful crackling. The Thai Seafood Cakes & Salt and Pepper Calamari were just that ...nothing special. Our mains of Southern NSW Grass Fed Sirloin was under cooked, the Pork Loin was simple but very dry, the Grilled Green Prawns looked like something you would have in a local Chinese restaurant and had very little flavour, and the NSW Lamb Rump was so charred but undercooked that 60% of the meat was inedible. Our waitress asked the with very little interest as to our response....was everything OK....as she walked away. We were sadly disappointed with the whole dining experience. It is such a beautiful venue in a great location and the opportunity to provide a really simple beautiful Australian produce was sadly missed.
The waiter Philip is a friendly guy. His services is excellent when he knows my friend and I have celebrate our birthday together. He prepared a little surprise for us. It was two chocolate with candle for our birthday. We enjoyed the meal and their services.
Great location but the food quality was disappointing. It was more bistro than gourmet
the only thing I would fault is it was soooooooooo hot in the private room we where in. A couple of fans in an old building like this would be a great improvement. Everyone loved the venue we will be back next year!!! I'm pushing for Lachlans to be our go to venue. thanks again.
Lovely spot for lunch. Private room was perfect
Nice food , but very expensive on the quantity he gives, it's costly when a family of more than 4 wants to come frequently
Wonderful venue Pleasant and attentive staff Generous High Tea
I felt the food (although good) was overpriced. Almost $40 for a piece of chicken when you then had to pay for sides is a bit much. Only choice of sides was beans or wedges/chips...definitely not fine dining. Also no lamb shanks because there was s wedding happening - perhaps they should shut the restaurant when weddings are on if they can’t cater for both.
Beautiful setting with exceptional food. Perfect for a special occasion
Thank you for the great food.
This restaurant has so much potential that the current management clearly want to deliver They need specialist marketing assistance and food that lives up to the ambience
Really pretty setting, tables on a vine leaf framed veranda. Staff were incredibly friendly, food was very tasty with a lovely Australian theme, even had yummy damper on the menu! Looking forward to heading back, even just for tea and scones!
This is my fifth visit..Food is delectable. The main sized dessert was a normal size. The staff were indifferent yesterday. Michael who has served us in the past was amazing.
Never ever had such as poor service in my life so far Will never go back again and won’t introduce to anyone Was so disappointed
It was a fairly average restaurant. Have to say I was expecting something a little more special for the location and price. Nothing in particular to complain about, but nothing to rave about either. Some attention to lighting wouldn't go amiss - no one really wants to eat with a spotlight on them. Candles anyone?
Entree prices are set too high for the average lunch customer
SERVICE WAS TOO SLOW

Step back in time
The first time you visit Lachlan’s you will wonder why you never knew about it before. This delightful eatery is set within Old Government House, and it is a charming chance to revisit an earlier, more refined era. Whether you are popping in for coffee and cake, enjoying a light café lunch on the vine covered terrace or trying the full a la carte menu, you are guaranteed to have a memorable experience. If you are going light, get the Ploughman’s Lunch with damper, cheese, pickles, chutney and a ramekin of soup, and if you are going for a more formal meal, don’t miss the seared kangaroo with grilled pepper potatoes and a caper and rosemary salsa. If you are looking to delight your loved one, try the Romance in History dinner for two, which gives you a specially-designed degustation menu with matching wines that is the perfect way to create a bit of your own personal history.
