Highly recommend this beautiful place! Having another opportunity to check out the Trust the Chef promotion and this is week 7 of their promo. Another week, a new menu! Divine menu this week. Zucchini flowers with pine nut ricotta, a deceivingly small but filling baked gnocchi, beef carpaccio with truffle aioli, jalapeño, micro herbs and ricotta fritters! This dessert is so moreish but the two large pieces is more than enough! The promo only goes for 9 weeks, so definitely worth checking it out.

Tonight is week 6 of the Trust the Chef promotion and it was another fantastic menu and excellent service from the team at Lachlan’s. Only a few more opportunities to try their winter promo, so glad to round up friends to check this wonderful venue out.

Thoroughly enjoyed a different menu tonight. Have been trying the different offerings, with Lachlan’s Trust the Chef promotion. This week didn’t disappoint. With an earthy theme, there were a couple of dishes featuring different mushrooms and what an absolutely delightful surprise - parsnip and carrot soup! Never heard of it, looked like pumpkin soup but wow, carrot softened by the parsnip and sweetened by the hazelnut. It set the scene beautifully for yet another unique menu. So here is the offering for week 5. 1. Roasted parsnip and carrot soup with spinach pesto, hazelnut and carrot petals. 2. Truffle gnocchi with burnt butter sauce, tempura enoki and sautéed chanterelles. 3. Roasted pork belly with apple confit, braised witlof and salted walnut, walnut jus 4. Chocolate tart with orange creme and candied mandarin. Then finished the evening off with coffee and liqueur truffles. Did I have any favourites? The soup was a winner because it was so different, but the gnocchi was a close second because I’m not fond of these at the best of times, but tonight; those little pillows of potatoes were so moreish... I may have to convert. The roast pork belly, well it’s all in the crunchy crackle, right? Well tick to that as well. The dessert was quite sweet for me, but I washed it down with a black coffee. So overall, along with wonderful friends for company, it was a very pleasant Friday night in this old but cosy place.

Visited for a 2nd time for The Trust the Chef promotion. It’s such a beautiful place. The menu is specially designed and is not from the a la carte menu, so whatever comes out is a complete surprise. Totally recommend Lachlan’s for any special event. The restaurant is in the old garrisons, so you can have a great time here whether it’s for an intimate dinner for two, or with a group of people.

First impressions are usually the best and long lasting, and my first visit to Lachlan’s was just that... the best. This venue is so unique with its long and interesting history, that there was an expectation that the food should be just as special. So we went to Lachlan’s to try their ‘Trust the Chef’ winter promo and we were in for a treat. We were greeted so warmly, it was easy to forget it was a really cold night. The service was fantastic and the maitre d’ was not only prompt and professional but also a lighthearted funny gentleman! You finally get a glimpse of what is to come when you receive the menu for the evening and a glass of sparkling wine to start. That’s when we knew the evening was going to be a great one. Then, in perfect timing, the four courses started to come. 1. French onion soup 2. Twice-baked cheese soufflé 3. Beef bourguignon 4. Craqueline profiterole To share that we had a great evening and the food was fantastic, is not enough to truly express what an experience it was to come here. It was a wonderful surprise that in the new trend of 2-hour sittings in fine dining restaurants, there are still establishments that will let you linger over your delectable dishes and not rush you out the door. Happy to recommend this place and the Trust the Chef promo, it was fun and a great way to try something new.

Really pretty setting, tables on a vine leaf framed veranda. Staff were incredibly friendly, food was very tasty with a lovely Australian theme, even had yummy damper on the menu! Looking forward to heading back, even just for tea and scones!

About Lachlan's

Step back in time The first time you visit Lachlan’s you will wonder why you never knew about it before. This delightful eatery is set within Old Government House, and it is a charming chance to revisit an earlier, more refined era. Whether you are popping in for coffee and cake, enjoying a light café lunch on the vine covered terrace or trying the full a la carte menu, you are guaranteed to have a memorable experience. If you are going light, get the Ploughman’s Lunch with damper, cheese, pickles, chutney and a ramekin of soup, and if you are going for a more formal meal, don’t miss the seared kangaroo with grilled pepper potatoes and a caper and rosemary salsa. If you are looking to delight your loved one, try the Romance in History dinner for two, which gives you a specially-designed degustation menu with matching wines that is the perfect way to create a bit of your own personal history. Best dish: lemon and vodka tart
