Consistently excellent food in this cosy, atmospheric place. Reopening post Covid 19 meant there was a short wait for our table but the special circumstances make us happy to cut the lovely staff some slack!

Went for midweek dinner, excellent food and service, very fresh ingredients, also very good for gluten free, buzzy atmosphere, highly recommend!

Really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and quality of food. I love that this place is small and intimate, perfect music for the setting and a great mix of alcoholic choices. One of my favorite places to dine

Spanish at its best. Their chorizo and croquettes are sensational. Good service too. Truth is really can’t fault the menu at all. A must try for Spanish food in Melbourne

Food and wine was beautiful. Music was very loud and when the guest I took for birthday dinner mentioned it they wouldn't turn it down even a little which resulted in her leaving before last dish was bought to table. Service was a little slow due to the business of the place.

Fantastic food (as always) & wine to match. Greeted with a smile, efficient & friendly service. Love the atmosphere tho music just a little too loud - difficult to hold a conversation across the table! Will be back again, of course :)

We were sitting right next to the door in a small table where we didnt even fit and everytime someone ordered some wine i had to stand up and hit myself with the curtains. Food was way too small. We pais 350 dollars and we were starving. Service was absolutely terrible, i waited 35 mins for a paint. I am never coming back, it used to be a good place, not anymore

It was a nice, cosy space great for a romantic date. Food serving was very small surprisingly even though we know its a tapas restaurant.

The guys here cancelled our reservation just 5 hours before we were due to arrive due to maintenance issues they said they had. Very disappointed as our booking was for a planned birthday celebration.

Javier and his team revel in providing a deliciously authentic taste of Catalonia! If you enjoy being treated like part of the family and love tapas and great Spanish wine this is a fantastic spot! It’s small (so it can get noisy) and it’s very busy on weekends (so book), but we loved it and will go back regularly!

Friendly service and European feel atmosphere. Tasty dishes, but bigger variety on the menus would be nice. Had a lovely time with friends.

Too many seats for such a small space. Seated for 15minutes no one served us or even looked at our table until I got up to walk out. Have eaten here several times, won’t be back.

About the restaurant

Tap into this While every Tom, Dick and Harry seems to offering ‘tapas’ on their menus, there is a insurmountable difference between the ‘real deal’ and the wannabes. Quite clearly one of the former, Las Tapas Gastronomia Española puts the pretenders to shame with its delectable morsels of joy. Depending on the day, the offerings may include anything from garlic, chilli and parsley-brushed prawns, cured anchovy fillets dusted with smoked paprika, piquillo peppers stuffed with creamy goat´s cheese and smoked chorizo. Regardless of the day, you can be guaranteed to receive the finest Spanish flavours, which you should accompany with Spanish wine or sangria. Or a combo of both? Located in Barcelona - I mean Balaclava, in Melbourne’s inner-south, this place is a great venue to enjoy some tasty and fresh food while you catch up with friends. Best dish: paella (served on Sundays)
