We have dined at Lavana a number of times before the theatre and have tried the Tapas as well as the meals and everything has been good. Even though it is quite open it was warm on a cool winters evening. Will go back when we are at the theatre next

Fabulous service - we were running late for pre-theatre lunch - so helpful on phone organising food to be ready minutes after we arrived. Meze dishes were all lovely

Lavana has become our go-to pre-theatre restaurant in the Hickson Street area. Whilst the menu doesn't vary, the food offering is sufficientand we always find it well cooked and beautifully presented. We usually don't have time or space for dessert, but tonight we did and we shared the apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. The portion was generous and very tasty, but I would have preferred a bit more apple in the dish. The service tonight was efficient and, as always, friendly and relaxed. We will definitely return ...

Food was cold and tasteless. The tables are very close together. It's not enjoyable. Pre-theatre meal that was convenient, but HUGELY disappointing. Poor vegetarian options.

Was ok. Bean and potato dish not the fresh respite we were hoping for but just potatoes in the same tomato sauce everything else was in, with three overcooked soggy beans. Waitress told us there were six ribs in a serve but we received four. When queried she said it depended on size - not what we were sold. Overall lack of interest by staff - clearly it was the boss's day off.

The food at Lavana was excellent, and service was friendly and efficient. We were advised that our first choice would take 25 mins to prepare, as they knew that many patrons were attending the theatre. The only downside was the exposure to the elements - which is lovely in summer but was not so lovely on a cold and windy winter evening.

Great setting and very busy when arrived at table. We were seated then forgotten. Had to ask for menus and water. Specifically asked for all dressing to be on side my Octopus was covered in dressing and quite tough. The fillet steak was very flavoursome. Never got asked if we would like dessert or coffee. Cutlery was dropped on floor whilst clearing our table and remained there! Small things that add up. But staff very friendly.

A lovely restaurant to go to before a show at the theatre. Good selection of tapas and great choice of wines. Good ambience. Would go there again.

We sat outside as the closed in section looked a little cramped and had a number of customers already seated. It was a cold evening but the overhead heaters were fantastic. The service was very prompt and the staff pleasant and engaging. The menu is extensive and caters for all tastes - from seafood to steaks to pasta - but with clever dishes (i.e. not plain nor typical) that you don't normally see. My colleague and I had entrees and mains washed down with a bottle of French red, but we skipped the deserts. The wine list was broad enough and covered a range of prices, again reasonable. We were seated at 6pm and out by 7.10pm as we had seats at the Sydney Theatre Company for a show at 730pm. Overall great service, excellent food and wine, and all at a reasonable price. The only downside was I booked via the Fork site but the booking didn't seem to register on the Restaurant's system. They explained that they ha d had a few issues of late with technology so might be best to confirm by calling them just in case. That didn't cause any issue when we arrived. Again the great customer service kicked in and we were seated without a fuss.

Pre- theatre dinner tapas was a very enjoyable experience. Staff were friendly, food was tasty and the location was wonderful. Just under $100 for two of us ( without alcohol) is reasonable for a Saturday night dining by the harbour.

Seated near a very bright display cabinet, our drinks were forgotten, one of our food orders were forgotten and found a hair in our drink and a hair in our food.

Went here for my daughters 21st Birthday. Lovely ambience, heaters on & just a hum of voices. The food was really good. We eat Tapas often and really enjoyed each dish - just wasnt enough to push a full star rating. Lacked dishes for Vegan/Vegetarians. Our waitress was a delight. Super helpful and willing to chat, however when she clocked off and someone else took over, they seem more interested in chatting with a colleague which was a tad disappointing. In a lovely part of Sydney town.

Food was very tasty and drinks were delicious. Service was a little inexperienced and the metal chairs were a little chilly on a cold night but generally a very pleasant dinner.

This is a great place to eat. We came here after a show across the road. The table was ready when we arrived, the food was excellent and the view/ambience was spot on. However, the service was ordinary to start and deteriorated as the staff grew stressed. By the end of our visit, we had the unpleasant experience of a delay in our dessert being combined with hustling us to meet an exit deadline we were never informed of. Staff training required to make this nice restaurant become a stand out.
