Truly excellent. An innovative selection of flavour combinations with a contemporary Japanese twist. Thoroughly delicious. And the place has a great range of sake both in terms of flavour and quality. Something for everyone.
Really freindly staff
This restaurant was disappointing. We arrived for lunch to a smell like a greasy takeaway, which did not leave. Service was fine but food was very ordinary for the price.
The most important thing by far is whether the food is amazing, and it was. Yes the service was lovely and virtually invisible (we never noticed it, but never needed to call for it). I don’t care what the price was because it was great value. Great food, lovely wine, sensational experience. We’ll be back.
Having read impressive reviews I booked Lilotang. It was one of the best dining experiences I have had for quite some time. My wife and I had the degustation menu which I highly recommend. The service was excellent with a good quality description of the meals. Each meal was exquisitely presented and with marvellous Japanese flavours. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. I highly recommend Lilotang for that special occasion or if you just like Japanese food.
Great food, especially when sharing. all dishes were very good but the stand-out for the evening was the grilled fish (orange roughy). based on that dish alone, and the recommendation that the toothfish was just as good, if not better, I'll be back.
Great quality food. Good portion sizes. Customer service was excellent especially Zac. Willard that they allowed us to change the set menus to suit our tastes and wishes. Will be back again!
We had a group of 8 staying at Hotel Realm and booked Lilotang for dinner, the food was absolutely fabulous but it was the staff that made our night such an enjoyable experience, we will definitely be dining here again, thankyou so much to all at Lilotang......amazing, delicious, fabulous
All dishes very flavoursome and nicely presented, however, they had run out of sushi by the time we arrived and dishes were small for a group of 6.
Food was very high quality, service impeccable.
We loved the whole experience, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I would go again with no hesitation. Definitely worth it
My boyfriend, now fiancee loves Japanese food! Lilotang had great Valentines dinner and the service was exquisite! All of the meals were presented well with brief explanation on what the food is and what to expect. They have our favourite Sake. Zach, our host was very sensitive with our celebration and gave us a lot of time. They made our engagement so beautiful, they made our dessert special and served us complimentary champagne from France. We can’t thank you enough - Lilotang , we will definitely come back ❤️
Our experience at Lilotang was positive is every respect. The food was carefully prepared and constructed. Our waiter was knowledgeable and each dish came at the appropriate time. The price was reasonable for the quality and expertise required to produce such delicious food.
The steak was almost the best steak I've had in my life. Flavors were explosive in all meals Service was top notch Oyster ice cream was a very different taste
When Walter Burley Griffin dreamed of his city, he dreamed of a jewel to rival the cities of Europe. And in that city he dreamed of a Japanese restaurant that embraced the ass as it embraced the tastebuds. Where great sake flowed freely and even a veteran foodie could find something new. While the city is ... in progress, the restaurant Lilotang is almost there. I went to Lilotang an amateur in fine Japanese dining. But from pictures I was irrationally excited by some padded seating (the rest a simple wooden style). My enthusiasm led me to sit far, far, too hard on the thin padding. The seating, quality-built and ergonomically designed, was not designed for the speed I gave my ass. But from there the night was a great success. Enough space between tables for comfortable conversation. Helpful staff guiding us through a confusing number of sake. A tasting banquet the perfect balance of delicious, bizarrely delicious, and bizarre. The tempura oyster with oyster ice cream was ... interesting. The sake was served cold, the better to appreciate the flavours. And after sampling one with hints of mushroom and yeast, we spent the evening getting to know some fruitier vintages. If you know what you want, this is a great place to get it. If you have no idea what you want, this is a great place to explore. Staff friendly and helpful, food amazing (even if I couldn’t appreciate it all) and the sake sampling a wonderful education. PS - the best part of the evening was the company (Lilotang can’t take credit for her being amazing, but I thought it important information nonetheless).
Food delicious and servings plentiful... gorgeous cocktails and attentive staff. Highly recommend.
Welcoming staff and really nice atmosphere. Menu was a little limited but good quality. The service was brilliant and would definitely come back for this. Great whiskey choice as well.
The super welcoming staff, the delicious food, presented beautifully, and the pleasant atmosphere were all absolutely superb. The attention to detail is a credit to them, We will, & have, definitely recommended this restaurant and will be looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for a fabulous evening!
This is easily the best Japanese restaurant in Canberra. The food is excellent, and the waiting staff are attentive without being intrusive, making for wonderful experience.
Amazing service, presentation and food. We appreciated the time and effort into presentation, and the stories behind the sake cups. A great experience.

Head Chef Shunsuke Ota combines his traditional Japanese training and techniques with new methods and techniques that he develops himself, creating modern Japanese dishes that begin with tradition but have evolved to be very much his own style. Located in the Burbury Hotel, the restaurant is slick with pale timber walls illuminated by strip lighting and lemon-yellow pops of colour. Semi private dining areas are created by hanging timber panels - giving you a touch of privacy if required, with views of the courtyard in the hotel. The menu consists of many tasty Japanese morsels like sashimi, robata-grilled yakitori skewers and duck breast sukiyaki with tempura egg. There’s much to love about this trendy Japanese eatery.
