Meet the Chef

Picture of George Kohler.

George Kohler

George Kohler was appointed Head Chef in 2017 and is our 5th Head Chef in 35 years. After completing his apprenticeship with us 10 years ago he then went on to great heights at the legendary 41 & Berowra Waters, followed by Monopole and finally as Senior Sous Chef under Logan Campbell at Jonah’s at Whale Beach. Logan, by the way, was our Head Chef No 3. We do like to keep things in the family. George’s youth and vitality is infectious and he has a great understanding of our style and ethos.

Ahhh, I love the food, the paintings, the fact that I can hear the person with whom I am speak, the fact that there is room between tables.
Thank you for your very kind words and appreciating our restaurant. 10/10 recommendation much appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you back again before too long. Kindest. Sally Galletto

Some uncomfortable moments with the waiter as had an odd style about him. A little waiting around to get started, but okay after that. Waiter served us a more expensive wine by “mistake” and had to drink as had been poured. At end of the night, we proceeded to get charged for the said more expensive bottle and a 3rd bottle which we had not drunk. Billing errors not handled great by waiter, but got sorted in the end. Food good, but not for the price paid.
Dear Wendy. Thank you for your feedback - it is always appreciated. Your tone, however would indicate that you believe we deliberately tried to deceive and/or cheat you. This was absolutely not the case. The first wine you ordered was a Barolo @ $135. Unfortunately we had just run out of stock and you were offered and chose a Barbaresco @ $175. At no time did the waiter offer this to you at a the Barolo price , he did not have the authority to do so. However, when you complained it was done immediately as a matter of courtesy. So, while the pouring of the Barbaresco, which you chose, was clearly not a mistake that you were forced to drink, we are sorry to say that the double charging of your second bottle of wine, a Shiraz, was indeed a simple mistake, and again it was rectified immediately without any fuss. Human error cannot be helped, but we always try our best to keep our guests happy if something goes wrong. We believe that we did so in this case, not "in the end" but immediately. We are pleased that you were able to rate the food as good, but we only use the best local and imported produce in all our dishes and that inevitably has to put the price up. We hope to welcome you back another time, without any "uncomfortable moments". Kind regards, Sally Galletto

Lucio's gives you the feeling that you're being welcomed into a good friend's home. The food is divine and fresh. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and have the perfect balance of interaction. The wine selection is varied but not overwhelming in its selection. We absolutely adored our dinner here and will be back!
Wow. Thanks so much Emily for your wonderfully generous review and scores. We are simply delighted you enjoyed your evening and look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit. Kindest Sally\

About Lucio's Italian Restaurant

Food, wine & art Lucio's has been serving exceptional Italian cuisine with a northern influence on this leafy Paddington corner since 1983. A constant recipient of numerous awards over the years, Lucio's continues to be recognised by critics, and enjoyed by customers for the fresh pasta made daily on the premises, traditional northern Italian cuisine (sometimes with a twist), outstanding service and attention to detail and eclectic wine list. The site originally housed the Hungry Horse Art Gallery and Restaurant, renowned for both excellent food and avante-garde contemporary art with such greats as John Olsen, Colin Lancley and Robert Hughes (before he decided he was more suited to the road of the art critic). Lucio has co-incidentally continued this harmonious tradition with great food and stunning Australian art. Best dish: mirrool creek lamb backstrap wrapped in silver beet served with cannellini bean purée, roast cipollini & watercress
