Party of three for dinner. Welcomed and shown to our table quickly. The most mature wait staff talked us through the available drinks for the night. We politely asked for time to choose from the extensive wine list and decide on our meals. This is when the faults showed up. We put down the menu and wine list and wait for staff to take our orders. We had to wait quite a bit because the main dining area was manned by maybe just 2 staff for orders. Two other staff were standing at the reception area after showing guests to their tables. Finally got a wait staff to take our orders. A carafe of white and a glass of rosé to accompany a tasting menu course for our party. Duck foie gras terrine with an apple and raisin chutney and a baguette for the first course. Good but nothing extraordinary. Second course was a salmon with creme fraiche and potatoes. Again, average. Crab lasagne was next. Best course of the night. Outstanding. There is a reason why this is the restaurant’s speciality. Main for me and the daughter was duck a l’orange, the wife had the steak. Tasty duck dish and cooked well. Steak had a lot of gristle which was a huge let down for the wife. Not enjoyable. Dessert was creme brulee, chocolate fondant, and apple tart. I liked my fondant, not overly sweet with the bitter hint of dark chocolate. Moist and oozy centre. The daughter demolished the brulee so no idea on how it tasted. The apple tart had a good base and a good fruity dessert. Overall, food was average and service lacked the attentiveness expected from a fine dining establishment. The location and the view is a good selling point for a romantic dinner for two.

Unpolite and hasty service. Food of medium to low quality. Poor presentation. Price/quality completely out of balance. 138 $ for a poor quality meal, 60 $ for a bottle of wine which costs less than 6 $ in a shop!

Always a delight to dine at Lutece. It was great that the vegetarian menu was also available for the fixed price lunch menu. The birthday treat was a lovely surprise. Thank you!

About the restaurant

A night in Paris?

Lutece Restaurant & Bar is a much-appreciated taste of French refinement in an otherwise ordinary suburban shopping strip. Inside, the decor is minimal and modern with dark floor tiles, opaque French cafe chairs and tables covered with crisp white tablecloths that exude a sense of understated class. The highlight is panoramic view of the city that is best appreciated at lunchtime. The menu is French (of course), boasting traditional dishes with a modern twist. The menu is seasonal, so if you visit in winter take full advantage of those rich French flavours in dishes like a 24-hour braised mushroom and truffle stuffed oxtail – this will literally melt in your mouth!

The fantastic flavours are courtesy of esteemed French chef Romain Bapst who has created this fresh oasis in the middle of Brisbane. If you’re feeling like a taste of Paris make sure you visit Lutece – c'est magnifique!
