Could sit there for hours and try each thing on the menu. Great service and a relaxed atmosphere. Great for dinner but perfect for wine and cheese too

great food and wine in a relaxed setting

This was my third visit to Marion in the last 6 months. The first visit, in late 2016, was a good experience - good service, lovely food. The second time I was taken there by friends for my birthday in January. We had the degustation menu and the food was good but our waiter wasn't very good - seemed vague, a bit disorganised and generally disengaged. My friend complained towards the end. Tonight on my third visit I took a friend visiting from London. We chose Marion as we'd both enjoyed other Andrew McConnell restaurants in the past, and I thought I'd give Marion another try as I live locally, it's a cool vibe and my first experience was good. Sadly, the service was not good once again. There were lots of little things that went wrong but the the main issue was that our dishes were all brought out at the same time - within the first 20 min after ordering. We had ordered a number of entrees and one main plus salad to share but there was no pacing at all. And no room on the table for everything. The waiter who brought the main dish out even made a joke that there was no room to put it down! As he tried to put it down on our tiny table when clearly we were not ready for it yet. Crazy stuff! We said we were not ready for the fish yet (clearly) and felt a bit rushed. He apologized and took it away. When it came back though it was overcooked. My assumption is that either the wait staff or kitchen staff were pissed off by our request not to have all dishes brought at once. The need not worry as I will not be returning a fourth time.

About Marion

Spread across two shopfronts Andrew McConnell’s Marion is the kind of place where you can pause for a glass of wine, or sink a few bottles over the course of the evening - the choice is entirely yours. The lengthy wine list features a number of small producers and exciting blends, and you can expect exciting drops covering the breadth and depth of the winemaking world. We're not the only ones who think the wine list is excellent; Marion was lucky enough to be awarded The Age Wine List of the Year in 2016. The food menu is seasonal and is always on the move with both small and large sharing plates available; think oysters, stracciatella, pasta tortellini, half roast chicken and whole flounder (just to name a few). Inside, Marion's decor is simple and chic, with white washed brick walls, comfortable leather seats, dark wood panneling and a bustling open kitchen. Whatever the occasion, whether you’re popping in for a quick drink and a snack or staying for the long haul, Marion can cater. We love sitting in the main window and watching the world go by - glass of wine in hand of course! Marion is open for dinner Monday to Sunday; for lunch Friday afternoon; and all day from 8am on the weekend + is wheelchair accessible. Best dish: chef’s selection
