Good food but simple. Wine average and expensive for what it is

Great service and food!

Let me start with the bad. It's not a cozy restaurant, quite drafty and if you are within 3 meters to the door you won't be taking your jacket off. The tables are atrociously tiny. Cafe style round tables that really doesn't work. But you will forgive all that. Firstly, the sommelier is friendly, unpretentious but professional. The wine collection is diverse and obviously meticulously chosen. It is a wine bar after all. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The food is a standout. We had some of the best oysters all year. The smoked eel was perfect. Prawn buns unbelievably fresh and just delicious. The sea bream was the same. The modern take on steak tartare really hits the spot. The duck and pork belly divine. And the two desserts we ordered were sophisticated but satisfying. Look forward to coming back again.

Great service and sophisticated food

Staff were knowledgeable and professional. Our waitress was excellent. A bit of fine tuning with communication from other staff wouldn't go astray. Food was tasty, well presented and suitably portioned; nothing blew me away though. Wine menu was thorough, the wine we chose was nice. Really nice fit-out and ambience for a special night out, whilst being well enough priced for a casual-but-nice dinner.

Our evening at Marion was absolutely amazing. We could not fault a single dish (impossible decision but the ox tongue, peppers & jamon, prawn roll, Jerusalem artichoke salad and flounder were my favourites) and the service was impeccable (great communication about surprising the birthday girl)! Will return again and again, with different people, so that more are aware of this gem!

The calamari and artichokes were delicious. I enjoyed the chocolate dessert as well. Great, efficient and knowledgeable service. I liked the design of the place and the comfortable sofa. Marion is well worth a visit.

About Marion

Spread across two shopfronts Andrew McConnell’s Marion is the kind of place where you can pause for a glass of wine, or sink a few bottles over the course of the evening - the choice is entirely yours. The lengthy wine list features a number of small producers and exciting blends, and you can expect exciting drops covering the breadth and depth of the winemaking world. We're not the only ones who think the wine list is excellent; Marion was lucky enough to be awarded The Age Wine List of the Year in 2016. The food menu is seasonal and is always on the move with both small and large sharing plates available; think oysters, stracciatella, pasta tortellini, half roast chicken and whole flounder (just to name a few). Inside, Marion's decor is simple and chic, with white washed brick walls, comfortable leather seats, dark wood panneling and a bustling open kitchen. Whatever the occasion, whether you’re popping in for a quick drink and a snack or staying for the long haul, Marion can cater. We love sitting in the main window and watching the world go by - glass of wine in hand of course! Marion is open for dinner Monday to Sunday; for lunch Friday afternoon; and all day from 8am on the weekend + is wheelchair accessible. Best dish: chef’s selection
