9/10We only booked at the last minute so was happy that there was a table for us. We were warmly greeted and the service throughout the evening was attentive and perfect balance of friendly and polite. The cost of the meals was mid-range and we both agreed the food was yummy. Will definitely be returning customers.

10/10Always great food and service. We always get the mixed dip and the meat platter as they’re the best in Melbourne 👌

10/10Enjoyed another excellent serve of tender lamb cutlets, cooked to perfection and all sizeable. Treated like an old friend here. Unbeatable Turkish cuisine.

7/10The service was good, but all the food was slightly boring. Maybe we made an unlucky choice though. Fish soup, baby eggplant and imam fainted - all were just fine, nothing special or particularly interesting. The most delicious part was their bread that they serve with a soup :) Overall, it would be probably a good place for some other city, but for Melbourne it's not competitive enough.

10/10Marmara Turkish - Chapel St Warm glowing date night lighting, silluthettes of what we assume is Istanbul. Marmara is just as we remember it from our college days, a welcoming spot with delicious food. One of the rare places we loved that's still around. Apple & Black Tea Vine leave dolma Spinach and feta cheese spring rolls Iskender – tender lamb off the spit Mixed grill (serves 1) - karişik izgara Mixed pickles Kadaif - sütlü tel kadayif (nests) Semolina halva with ice cream Turkish delights For starters we had rice wrapped in vibe leaves and spinach/feta spring rolls. Mains were certainly the highlight with his dish being a claypout of paper thin lamb and beef mince from the turning roast (doner kebab) with a tomato sauce, finished with yoghurt. I also got the lamb (minus sauce aww) as part of the mixed grill platter (1.5 serves). Along with a skewered lamb & chicken fillets, kofte (skinless sausages) and a cutlet (lamb) served with garden salad & pilaf rice. All the meats were delicious, tender and juicy. Nothing dry. Defintely made the right choice. The dessert menu was a page itself! Choices... he chose a semolina, very light in sweetness. While I had a fasinating dish, served up like nests. Menu says it's oven baked kadayif (fine strings of pastry), soaked in our unique milky honey syrup, topped with crushed walnuts and served with creamy mascarpone. Reminds me of fine vermicillie, so it was certainly an interesting dish. Reccomendations? The mains we ordered. Service was quick and very friendly. We booked through @theforkau (formally dimmi) and got 50% off food. The damage came to around $75 for both of us.

10/10Food was absolutely delicious - we had Iskender which was soft and so good, and a vegetable claypot - also very nice and generous serves. Can't fault the whole experience.

10/10It's been a while since we dined at Marmara and we found it is still as good as we remember it. We had two entrees, dolma and eggplant, both delicious, and shared three mains of prawns, lamb cutlets and skewered chicken. Servings were generous in size and all excellent quality. A very enjoyable evening.

8/10We ordered three main dishes: SLOW COOKED LAMB AND CHICKPEAS- the lamb is very tender and tasty, but the portion is small. ÌSKENDER – Tender Lamb off the Spit- very big portion but not the type of meat I like. I will not recommend this dish. SKEWERED LAMB FILLETS - KUZU ŞÌŞ- this is the best dish we ordered- it is tasty and also include Salad and rice. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. The service is ok. The dips are very tasty.

9.5/10We made a booking for 6:00 and when we arrived there was no the booking in their system. I showed the staff the booking on my phone and they apologised and found us a table but we were somewhat rushed as we had to vacate the table by 7:30. Under the circumstances the staff were friendly and polite and the food and service was excellent. Not sure whether the mistake was made by the restaurant or the Fork App but ir was very annoyin!

True Turkish delight
Away from the bustling retail end of Chapel Street, you will find Marmara Turkish Restaurant, one of Australia's oldest Turkish restaurants. Established in 1980, the secret to Marmara's longevity is clear: offering hungry diners a genuine Turkish experience. We can't go past the special banquet, which leaves no stone unturned when it comes to the best of Turkish food. Entrée does more than whet your appetite with dips, baked eggplant, Turkish bread, a spinach and feta spring roll, fresh green beans and vine leaves. Not to be outdone, the main course sees you sampling fresh calamari, iskender kebab, shish kebab, shish tavuk and grilled prawns. Don't eat meat? Not a problem! The flavours of Turkish food lend themselves perfectly to vegetarian cuisine. All banquets are accompanied by pilav (rice) and a garden salad, although we wouldn't blame you for moving straight to the selection of desserts and beverages (both hot and cold) that are also heading your way. After all, what Mediterranean meal is complete without baklava and Turkish coffee? If you're not quite ready to take on a banquet, Marmara also offers an extensive eat-in and takeaway menu. As the restaurant's name derives from the region of Turkey surrounding the Sea of Marmara, we love trying the new seafood specials, such as the claypot with grilled king prawns, scallops, mussels, calamari, fresh tomato, spinach, garlic, fresh herbs and pesto. As they say in Turkey, ‘afiyet olsun' (or bon appetit)!
Best dish: Fresh calamari
