Flavio Carnevale

In his first restaurant, Popolo, Flavio Carnevale explored the Southern Italian food of his Basilicata childhood. Now, MARTA is a celebration of the energy, flavours and Lazio wines of his adopted city Rome. In Flavio’s view, hospitality relates to a restaurant’s entire package so he spent 10 years in Rome by day cooking in the kitchen then by night on the floor hosting and serving fully immersed in the food, wine and personalities - this is still his modus operandi at MARTA

The schiacciata. The gnocchi fritti. The pizza. All so good, that I will happily travel across town again and again. The wine list is almost impossible to make heads or tails of, unless you are an Italian wine enthusiast. Friendly service, and reasonable prices.

Simple Roman fare at Rushcutters Bay. Simple gorgeous food full of flavour. We loved the crispy gnocchi fritti and the indulgent cacio E Pepe. Great Italian wine list. Can't wait to come back. @hungrycookiee

It was an OK dining experience but nothing was outstanding or even that good. Average is probably the best word to describe it all.

About MARTA

MARTA is an osteria inspired by the flavours and streets of Rome. The ideal spot from date nights to leisurely Sunday family gatherings. Flavio Carnevale - creator of Sydney's much loved Popolo - has created a true neighbourhood gem serving up traditional Roman flavours in abundance - from classic cacio e pepe (pasta served with black pepper and pecorino) to scottadito (tomahawk with spicy chicory). Best dish: cacio e pepe.
