Meet the Chef

Having grown up in South Australia, Scott Pickett excelled in Michelin star restaurants, before starting his own venture in Melbourne. 2011 saw Scott open his first restaurant, Estelle Bar Kitchen in Melbourne’s North, now newly renovated and named Estelle. In 2013 Pickett opened his first Collingwood venue, Saint Crispin. Pickett’s Deli and Rotisserie in Melbourne’s city came next in 2016, then 2018 saw the creation of Pickett’s first South side venue, Matilda 159 Domain.

    Food, service, atmosphere, and everything else was just amazing. Just walking into the restaurant you knew you were about to have one of the best fine dining experience and what Australian produce has to offer. Highly recommended and would definitely go back.

    We had the tasting plate and it was certainly worthwhile. It pushed a few boundaries yet used both traditional as well as exotic ingredients. While the wood fire is the main coming method, other methods of cooking were also in play.

    Wow. Every dish is immaculately presented, so flavoursome and exactly what you expect from a top restaurant in Melbourne. Crab and duck were exquisite and I will not hesitate to go back here in a heartbeat!

    This restaurant is... WOW! The food, the presentation, the wait staff, the drinks. It was a truly amazing restaurant and one of the best I’ve ever been to. The crab entree and duck mains were out of this world - succulent, flavor some and immaculately presented. Loved this place

    We loved this restaurant, our first visit but certainly not our last, great space and especially nice to hear yourself talk! Service was superb and friendly, our waiter was very explanatory with our food choices and recommended a delicious wine to accompany. Thanks Sam.

    Exquistite. Loved every delicious home grown morsel. Live in Sydney, but i'll be back next time down in Old Melb Town. Maybe a Sydney branch of Matilda in Manly? We need a great fine dining restaurant. If not Manly, Surry Hills will suffice. Thankyou. My partner and i loved. xxxxx

    The food and atmosphere is fantastic, definately a special occasion place as the price is higher , service this time wasn't the best I've had

    A great restaurant with delicious food. Seafood & steak incredible. The desserts however were a letdown, the banana dessert and chocolate dessert were basically just some mousse smeared on a plate with the smallest (ie the size I give my toddler!) scoop of ice cream. Disappointed end to a lovely but expensive evening. Also bizarrely my husband ordered an entree & was given 4 pieces of flat bread to go with it. I ordered the exact same dish for my main and was given only 2 pieces of bread. Not sure why? Good night & great service. Would love to go back one day but obviously not order dessert.

Matilda 159 Domain, located on Domain Road in South Yarra, is the newest venue for the celebrated Pickett and Co restaurant group. Incorporating the elements of earth, fire, nature, and water, Matilda features handcrafted timber tables, natural linen textures and an earthy colour scheme designed to create a feeling of comfort and warmth.

Chefs Scott Pickett and Tim Young create a visual and sensory journey in their contemporary Australian menu, fueled by open fire, hot coals, and the best local produce. The use of different woods, smoke, charcoal, and fire takes the oldest form of cooking known to mankind, and explores how each enhances the flavour of the natural product.

Awarded two Chef’s Hat by the Age Good Food Guide soon after opening, Matilda is refined yet relaxed enough to visit often.

Join us for dinner and stay for a drink in Oscar’s Bar. Or for those special occasions, private dining and events are available in the Harrison Room and the Oscar Room.
