The steak was done to perfection. The best chocolate fondant I've ever had.

Been coming from DARWIN for 15 years for footy and always have a steak at Mitre once a year ...unfortunately this time 2 of 3 steaks were not cooked to our choice (Medium) both were rare and quality was not up to Mitre standard ....asked for a dozen oysters and only 6 were ordered ...took a while for the other half ....service was fine ...food not up to scratch for me this time

Great steakhouse above a pub

The Mitre Steakhouse, last Sunday evening, had the same beaut ambience, the service was good, as was the food, mainly. However...with only a relatively small number of diners, and perhaps lousy weather, the place emptied relatively quickly. At 8.50 PM when we asked about coffee we were told ‘...the machine has been turned-off and is being cleaned...’ A return visit, at least on a Sunday night, is not likely in the near future. Thanks.
Hello! On behalf of my team I would like to apologies for your experience on Sunday night. I have discussed the matter with the staff members and guarantee that the coffee machine will not be cleaned and turned off till the last costumer is leaving. This is actually a standard rule however to my disappointment the wait staff working on Sunday night clearly ignored this rule. I hope we will see you again in the future so we can prove to you that this experience was an exception. Kind regards, Manager Mitre Tavern Steakhouse

About Mitre Tavern Steakhouse

Steak Out a Spot at the Mitre! If you’re keen on a side of history along with your steak, check out Mitre Tavern Steakhouse on Bank Street in Melbourne CBD. The building dates back — way, way back — to Melbourne’s earliest days and still holds much of its historical charm. The Mitre Tavern Steakhouse definitely has that steakhouse-y feel with its dark interior, gold-rimmed chandeliers and the occasional antlers mounted on the wall. There’s a well-stocked bar featuring spirits from around the world to kick off the meal. Of course you can also peruse the extensive wine list, which features a variety of Australian and New Zealand wines. If you want to spring for something a touch fancier, you can certainly do that here; many of Australia’s finest wines are showcased on the wine list. But really, you’re here for the steak, aren’t you? The menu includes grass-fed and grain-fed beef from around Australia as well as Gippsland Natural Beef and Certified Australian Angus Beef. Be sure to order a side of the hand-cut fries with truffle salt – they’re the ideal accompaniment. There are plenty of plates to share as well as thoughtful options for those who aren’t in a steak kind of mood. Try the beer-battered flathead or gourmet sausages and mash instead. Best dish: Gippsland eye fillet with hand-cut steak frites
